Should HP and DMG be High or Low?

If you were playing a very battle oriented scripted level against the AI, where the AI units were much strong (naturally) would you rather have all the units have High HP or Low HP?

I've been trying to figure out a good balance, but havent been able to figure out if continous but rampant battles were better (Low HP) or if smaller Longer battles would be better...

Any suggestions?

Personally, when I like fragfests where your killing hordes of creatures. So I guess low HP would be my answer.

I find that your alternative of lower hitpoints would make for a better map. One of the reasons is because skirmishes are many, and you don't feel like your hero is overpowered, obviously the opposite if you play those Aeon of (insert your agility whore hero here) maps.

What does that have to do with anything? Hardly anyone here uses a spell editor and I'm sure if this is going to be a very oriented game it will have custom spells to begin with.

i my self love long battles that require skill to win, like in MMORPGS when you fight epic monsters

In daoc fighting the dragon, legion, glacier giant, those took skill of the masses of people to win (mainly skill on the healers keeping people alive...)

I think I'll go with higher, but I'm not very sure...

The average Elven Swordsman has 260 HP, King's Guard (Human) has 400 and the enemy units vary from 600 - 1200.

DMG for Elven Sword is about 21-41 and enemy is 42 - 68...

Would it necessarily be better if it was lower? :bgrun:

Its just easier to work with, with high numbers things can get more complicated but you can calibrate it alot more. By adding 1 damage to low amounts it seems like a lot, but if you are using high numbers, 1 is almost nothing.

if the map should require SKILL
then give everything high hits and low dmg
if the map shouldnt require SKILL
then give everything low hits and high dmg
(and add tomes ^^)
