Blood Hunters Under Way

Im working on my newest map since my DND map was a failure, well i was away from warcraft for like 3 months maybe if i had stayed in that time i wouldve promoted it better, but everyone plays that neverlax DND

my DND map is very good, but people starting to say the DMs triggers are too complex

i wont give up on it though

Ive decided to work on a new map, I am a one man team so bear with me if this is not looking good so far, i got a good amount of the terrain working on, im working on each town area first then m gonna include all the like mountainous nature, creep spawn area stuff in the middle, itll be easier to connect

i am posting screenshots of it here so everyone can see and rate how its going so far

I will have custom spells and possibly custom units too, editing units harder so i need more work on that

my map is called Blood Hunters, i wont deny that i started this map with FMVH inpiration, i hope i am not accused of stealing ideas or anything, it will be like vampire hunters but with some extra twists not seen yet in a vampire hunter map

i consider myself very good in terrain editing, i hope i can prove that with these screenshots of some of the town areas, i hope i soon be able to edit spells etc. this map wont be finished soon im gonna put my best into it and hopefully bring out something very successful

i will learn from my failures and keep the game mechanics as simple as possible

ok im gonna attach screenshots now and more in the future, i will then have a beta download for anyone willing to test my map, when it is done BETA wise

hope i get good ratings and i hope i get good support

thanks for any feedback

I'm not trying to sound mean, or under influencing (is that even a phrase?) but your terrain is very bland, especially the first shot, actually both screenshots sucked in the matter that it doesn't show much of anything. Heres a few tips in creating beatiful terrain:
1) If you are using water, make good use of it, dont keep things square and dont have it where it doesn't make sence.
2) Towns, towns should be sensible, I know all RPGS have a town with 5 buildings and a few NPC's but that's not logical, try to emphasize on towns and make them look like a nice place to live.
3) Hills and cliffs, using the raise tool limits lots, not only does it stretch the tile you are using, but you have to paint the pathing for it if it's too steep, make good use of cliffs, use ramps for effect, that dont need to be able to be walked on, but they add a hilly effect.
4) Add doodads, nothing is worse than having a plain map with no doodads, doodads increase the value of your map if you use them right, dont put trees or fire in the water, it's just not sensible, use common sence and over exaggerate things at first, then you can always go back and remove some things that are hardly visible or aren't even seen at all.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply but let me clear up some things

its not an rpg its a vampire hunter map with some new stuff im gonna think up one including blood vials etc.

um the water in my eyes seem very good i mean you want me to make up a complete watersystem or something? lol alot of games i play people dont notice the water but they notice custom spells i know what im doing

my towns have alot of dooads in them to make them look like a town, i am gonna look through the doodads and think up possible more ways of making them more better

i dunno about your hills and cliff, i think your saying the vapires or players are gonna run on the cliffs or something? and ive never noticed bad pathing using some of the terrain tools like you mentioned

anyway thanks for your reply i also inclosed another screenshot of outside town in the outskirts where there will be some creep spawns, and beyond this screenshot im working on a river area with a waterfall splashing down on 2 rowboats which are sort of docked on shallow water, that will be a spawn for some villagers too, is my screenshots that bad so far noone wants to reply? or is it not enough info on my map yet?

can i get more thoughts on my screenshots so far then

thanks

I believe what FyreDaug was trying to say (correct me if I am wrong) is use Raise and lower for Hills and Cliffs instead of just using the cliffs.

That was it makes your level look more rolling and not so flat.

I like the terrain, it looks very natural. If you make it too detailed, it tends to loose its natural feel.

thanks electro, yes when im making the towns and nature areas i tend to think of what seems natural beauty, and i build from that perspective

Electro, while that is true, ground isn't always naturally FLAT.
