Best Cinematic Examples

Ok, for those who aren't sure what to do for a cinematic map or in-game cinematics I've decided to post a list of what at least I feel to be the best Cinematic Maps out there.

Honestly I'm not very "well traveled" and there may be some that I missed. If you know of any good ones from another site or whatever, link to them here.

Anyway, the best ones out right now are the Creatures of the Night maps and (of course) Insaniteus Cinematics.

Get CotN from the website HERE

Get Insaniteus Cinematics HERE

Another one that I really liked was made by Laborparty as a Red Alert Trailor. Get it HERE

Honestly, there aren't many more cinematic maps out there, and that's a real shame. Berry2K made trailors for DMMod, but he took them out of his sig and I can't link to them.

Anyway, what's realy good about all of these linked maps, is the fact that they are all UNPROTECTED! You can open them up and look to see how everything was done. I know with IC I put everything in chronological order, and I labeled everything to make things easier. These can serve as nice tutorials for cinematic making.

OK, COTN I have looked at but Insaniteus I dont know. So I have just looked at that and I have to say it is very amazing. Congratulation, Insaniteus. Continue your way with cinematics. ;)

Ah, what I forgot, the link to the RedAlert cinematic doesnt work. :( Fix it, plz. ;)

Well LaborParty's map was in the old retail map DL section and that has been removed. I don't think it can be attached here due to the new limits. I might upload it to warcraftiii.net so that his talent doesn't fall to the wayside.

Although I've done over a hours worth of cinematics myself, they are pretty much tied into my maps. I might put up the intro cinematic map for my campaign later on, however.

@Insaniteus: How can I get my specialeffect-units work in my map like your tornado for example? I see just a shadow on my map not the specialeffect-unit; in my worldeditor I see this specialeffect-unit. It is a little bit curious.
I know that I can make specialeffect with a trigger but I want it to do in this way like you. ;) Do you use the original editor or another?

So I appreciate it if you help me. Thx in advance. ;)

Basically what he did was used the cyclone special FX and put in the file path of a unit. You need an advanced editor such as UMSWE for this (I believe, haven't used old editor in a while).

I remember that Insan.'s experiment with SFX units was the first example I saw in action, and it was quite impressive. It has been useful for me in many of my maps as well.

Yeah, I know that but when I want to see my new sfx-unit in the game I see only the shadow of this sfx-unit. The sfx itself I dont see. :( But my path for the sfx is 100% correct.

so if I want a SFX in my map, like Insanitues' then I would have to create a special effect and import it as an unit?
But how can I make new SFX then? Do I have to skin/remodel something?

Not at all, just change the Path to the model and the textures will follow. Are you sure you removed the .mdl/.mdx at the end of your path

Example:

Units/Human/Sorceress/Sorceress.mdl

The path to this model would be

Units/Human/Sorceress/Sorceress

OK, my problem is solved. I have just changed the "UnitMetaData.slk". In the row "file" I have changed the column "stringExt" (String data needs externalized?) from "1" to "0".
Now I can see my sfx-unit in my map and not only the shadow of this unit. :)

EDIT: @Laborparty: Yeah, your link workx, thx. ;) And I am going to look at your cinematic in the next time. I hope it is good but I think it is very amazing. ;)

EDIT: I have just noticed something. Only the sfx which have animation tags will be displayed well in the game. ;)

Abilities\Spells\NightElf\BattleRoar\RoarCaster <--- This sfx for example has no animation tags and so it wont be displayed in the game.

Abilities\Spells\Orc\LightningBolt\LightningBoltMissile <--- But this one for example has three different animation tags (stand, birth, death) and so it will be displayed in the game.

I think that it has something to do with the units. Every unit have as standard-animations a stand and a death animation. So the sfx has to have such animations, too.

Heh, glad you fixed that, buster, because I was clueless. Some Special Effects don't show well if they're not used as a unit (like Purge), but I hadn't had any invisible ones yet.

And thanks Laborparty for updating your link. I updated the one in my first post as well.
