The generall quality of the material posted here is concidered to be really great? I could make an half-arsed atempt at shortening the ears of an elf priest and then making his nose red and i'd probably be raised to the skies by someone. Though an outside viewer would likely laugh himself silly and then try another page. My point is, many people seems to have really low standards on skins/modells/artwork and i think this reflects badly on the community. I just wish that some people would be more critical when looking at new material, and that some would refrain from posting things that they made up in 5 minutes when they could put some heart into it and make something that would really be worthwhile to look at. I've seen some good work here and i've seen some bad, but most of it is just what most people could do without breaking a sweat. If you agree with me then so be it, and if you think i am a rude son of a b***h then so be it, thats life. |

Nope, you're not the only one. I've noticed areas where things are lacking but you've gotta remember that wc3 modding is -comparatively- new, and that there aren't really many benchmarks established for people to judge things on so they don't have much motivation to try and pass that threshold. ~kharma |

I agree, there is so much crap peopledo and people see and are like OH MY GOD J00 0WNZ MEEE! when its just a randomly extruded box or a slightl alphaed skin, and then people go and say its blizard quality, you think you knoq blizzard quality? try modelling and skinning and animating just one model, just one. when I start seeing some nice ones, then we can argue blizz quality |

You will see that as soon as my main modeller gets enough time to work his arse off for me ;) But as with all good modellers it is hard for him to find enough time to work of free projects as the one we are working on. Anyways, nice to know i am not the only one who have noticed this. And Kharma i am not really thinking that the maps are especially low quality, its rather the "new" modells and skins that you see about everywhere that is the main problem. And skinning and modelling is not exactly new even if the game is. |

I agree, and I wasn't just talking about maps. It took about 3 years for anything decent to start coming out of Starcraft maps and Warcraft has barely been out for 1. Of course we have certain advantages now as compared to ye olde days of SC but I'm speaking relatively not absolutely. As I said, it's comparatively new because only a handful of people who have modded other games before have transversed to make models and skins for wc3. And yes, I couldn't agree more that it's the area of models and skins which really needs a kick in the butt. There's just so many people who aren't willing to put the effort in, they always want the easy road and unfortunately it's like that all too often. It's been my experience that you glean a lot more from solving a problem yourself then asking others to solve it for you. How do you think they found out in the first place when they didn't have anyone to ask? :P ~kharma |

same way like me? crying in frustration and anger after having spent all day doing nothing but working on the problem untill they learned at least something new? :] One of the best ways to learn something new is to work together with others though, i learned alot about the variables (compared to what i knew before) that can be used with the triggers when me and a friend sat down and brainstormed around, its allways good to have someone to toss around your ideas to. But i still stand by my opinion. |

Guest | I agree with you. Someone posted a 100% Black Ancient Protector with red eyes and hands and called it a) a gorilla und b) a "good" skin. I had a hard time not to flame him into the ground (i _am_ a flamer, but try to be nice here), but some people said "awesome" ... omg oh well, but then Undead-Swarm posts screenshots from his awesome K&K map.. lots of nice details work, really hours of worktime and someone gives it a 4/10 points. Im pretty sure that are guys typing "THIS IZ GAY!!11" - "X has left the game" if there is no 5000 DEX hero in the game. Yes, I agree with you. Feel offended. - [Bloodlust] |
