ANNOUNCE: New WC3 Mod: Warstrat 1.00

After many months of modding and learning all about what you can and cannot do with the Warcraft III World Editor, WarStrat is finally finished.

The gameplay for WarStrat is far different than WarCraft III so it is absolutely necessary for people to read all of the documentation before actually playing or else they just will not understand all of the new units, spells, and other gameplay features in WarStrat.

Also things such as the resource system and food system are much different than in Warcraft III so if you do not read the documentation then you might as well be a Warcraft III player who does not know what "farms" are for.

This is a game that is intended for average to experienced RTS players and many of the concepts will be difficult for new RTS players to understand, including the damage system which is entirely different than Warcraft III.

To read more about WarStrat and to download the WarStrat map pack, go to http://www.warstrat.org

Last but not least, I would like to thank Yobguls, Blackdick, Cookies, Samsnuffy, Zepir, and Weaddar (the "Hold Position" spells are the result of your idea in a thread on another forum) for all kinds of different things that made making this mod possible. If not for their volunteered efforts during and after the beta period, making WarStrat would of been impossible and I probably would not be paying attention to Warcraft III at all during this moment. I would even mention them as contributors to WarStrat if I had their permission to do so. Anyways, there are other people I have probably forgotten their user handles for since it has been such a long time when I started working with the World Editor, so if I didn't mention your name, a special thanks goes out to you guys/gals as well.

Sadly we just discovered yesterday that you can edit slks in a map meaning you could probably make new spells...Oh well

It cuts off... or maybe it's my PC?

I just played a round against the PC (Cuz I can't get on BNet for some reason) and have to admit, that was really fun. Only a few minor problems/suggestions-

I played Human, so I needed pigs. However, there was no short supply of pigs. I really think that the rate those things pop out should be cut WAY back.

We can't be expected to memorize all the heroes' abilities and whatnot instantly, and while I did like the way tooltips were set up for normal units, the tooltips for heroes were nonexistant. I ended up making a Cavalier and a Ranger simply because, well, they sounded good.

Just some constructive criticism; I really like the way this changes the game and hope it catches on with people.

Is this map protected? I haven't been able to check because my friend has my CD, but I want to see how you did a lot of things in it. I wouldn't edit it and steal your map, as it is obviously well planned out from Mastercraft and I know how bad it makes people feel.

Satyrs are the ENEMIES of the Night Elves.

Anyway, great MOD, so many strategies from this... it is a true strategy game that is the most strategic I've ever seen.

However, its too strategic for MY taste, but I'm sure many other people will like it.

Good Work!!

To Wumbate:

I LOVE 'The Changeling' Game you made on Starcraft!! Man, if only it lasted longer and no one died so fast. I'm trying to make a map of Changeling that is actually a huge campaign where the Players run for their lives, not knowing the Changeling is amongst them. Within it, you can learn powers, get items, and there are tons of cool puzzles you have to do while avoiding the Changeling.

I guess I shouldn't do it, would you mind if I did?

Once again, I LOVE that game!!

Unless, you aren't the original Wumbate from starcraft... that would be dissapointing.

Each time you create units, you lose food to your food cap. The same goes with buildings. So in an intense game you are making units and buildings all of the time. At most 5 pigs will be at a location per minute and I tested pigs giving off less food in another mod and the game just went way too slow. You would collect a ton of gold and not be able to spend it.

Also, the SLK stuff I will have to look into. Obviously, I would rather do spells a little differently than using hold position.

As for the tooltips, I don't have them done for the heroes and some of them don't format correctly with the units, so that will be changed in time.

As for Satyrs being enemies of the night elves? If you got the collector's addition the Satyr's I believe were original allies of the night elves as a lot of concept art in the "Night Elf" section is of satyrs. If you know your mythology, satyrs basically are always off frolicking with dryads and are sexually crazy but by no means evil.

And last but not least, this map is not map protected but I don't mind people borrowing triggers for their own maps. I am not out to make money on this so I really don't care if you do or do not give me credit. Just do what you want with them (-:

Mythology is not the same as Warcraft, I know my mythology and the Satyrs of Warcraft III are not frolicking Dryads.

Now, if you look in your Warcraft III handbook, under Neutrals, you will find:

Satyrs were once night elves who practiced the magical arts in the days before the War of the Ancients.
These magically corrupted night elves, having given themselves to the will of the Legion, became terribly cursed.
Though they retained a portion of their magical power, their bodies were warped and twisted into those of beasts.
Now the satyrs exist ONLY TO HARRY THEIR HATED NIGHT ELF COUSINS and obey the will of the Legion - which they believe will one day return.

SO HAH!!! Unfortunately, YOU did not do you research!!!

I've played The Thing but I liked The Changeling ALOT better because of changeling powers and stuff. I don't know why, I just did.

OK granted, most of the new units have nothing to do with the Warcraft universe per se, but yah you are correct on the Satyrs. In fact, if you click on them enough they talk about how they want to kill all the Night Elves and what not. Oh well (-:

As to the changeling thing I am not sure what you mean. Are you talking the Shapeshiter, Werecrow, or Werebear or are you talking about the fact you can take two zombies and merge them into a reaper or take two reapers and merge them into an abomination?

The latter thing I put in there because I always thought it was cool in Starcraft how zerg could morph several of their units into units they needed as they needed them making them the most versatile race. So if you look at the weapon type and armor type of the zombie, reaper, and abomination you will find they are all different and that is done just so you can counter your opponent with Undead by making the right types of units when you need to since due to Undead's food system, they cannot just delay their building options and counter their opponent like the other races can.

Undead are designed to be a non-stop attack oriented race where their food output is rewarded by constantly attacking. Night elves are more of a powering race (massing unit mixes), while orcs are more of a power/buffing/damage dealing race (try out the monks they do a lot of damage even though they are weak but with feign death they can be very good in the right hands) and humans are more of a positional combat oriented race with their flanking bonuses with the knight's "flank" ability and the rogue's "backstab" ability.

Wumbate made another game called the Changeling that I liked, nothin' to do with your game.

I'm not saying pigs = less food, i'm saying pigs = less often. And besides, like I tried to convince my friend who literally went on for about ten minutes about all the inaccuracies (WHAT THE HELL?! THE GOBLINS LEFT THE HORDE, WHY ARE THEY FIGHTING IN IT AGAIN?!!?), this is about STRATEGY and KILLING SHIT. This is NOT about being mythologically (Or even Warcraftogically) correct. :)

I look forward to my first game against a real damn person and not the PC. :)

Sure you can make a scenario based off of the Changeling. The thing was too complicated with all the buildings for most people, and it crashed on my computer whenever I tried to play any of the ice ones. I haven't been able to make a map yet for WC3, I still need to learn enough to make one. I might make a Changeling-like map for WC3, any ideas?

For some reason edit didn't work.. make sure you post your scenario here so I can play it when your finished. And MCTFB, how does the "play dead" ability work for one of your units (it's one activated by hold position).
