Some thoughts/making of...

After having released part III, I've been telling to myself "alright, now I need to do better." And if I rely on the feedback, my goal has been accomplished. For once, I'm going to comment my own work since I'm feelin like telling everyone about it. That looks pretty much like a "making of", and everyone loves to know how awesome things came to life!

Scene 1 - Ithrande Mystical Forest

Main concept
You've probably seen how the concept of this place changed if you rely on the released "Sneak Preview", where it was all golden and shiny. When I came to build the Forest, I figured out it needed to be a somewhat wild but beautiful place.

Visuals and Landscape
You probably also seen how much details and work I've put on the landscape: from the biggest World tree to the most insignificant Mushroom. If you didn't notice, check very carefully at the beginning of the cinematic: I decided to make up my own "digital Grading effects" using a transparent fade filter.
When I found out about the concept of the World Tree forest, I immediatly thought I could use paths that go under the roots that make it look enchanting and harmonious with nature. The buildings that are surrounded by these roots also give that nice effect. The small details give COTN its magic, that's a tip I'd give to anyone out there willing to create cinematics: Don't neglect any single aspect of your world, from the landscape to the story. Everything has to look perfect. Althought my script sometimes lack details :)

The History Concept
I wrote down (on paper) the whole world history/timeline before going to bed. Even when I was in my bed, I was thinking about what I could include so that's why I always have a notepad on my desk to write down stuff that I don't want to forget at night. When making part 3 I didn't even know what the spiritual stone was all about myself, so I wanted to make sure everything was done properly. Of course in the cinematics I didn't want to make it look like and endless dialogue so I only gave the main idea, but Part 5 will tell more about various aspects of the world.

Scene 2 - Kel'Dorah Woodlands/Zucchabar

Algor
You guys actually made Algor into a bad guy. I found it quite risky but still good to transform Algor into the large demonic creature seen @ Part 2. My point of view about Algor's personality has changed a lot from part 2 to 4, at first I didn,t want to make him be a bad guy, but when I read all those messages telling "It's obvious that Algor is hiding something..." well I decided to make you guys happy ;)

Building/doodad Customization
I believe this one was quite a good idea. The Castle looked so gigantic and more imposing with the 2 attached cathedrals. So were some of the buildings that were built out of 2 or 3 different houses. As I mentioned before, Zucchabar is 90% fake, and that's what I like from cinematics :D. The houses are units using building models, so I can rotate them the way I want.

Well that's it for now, I might add some more sooner or later.

it's nice to read how such a thing as Part IV is being build from scatch to a top-of-the-hill cinematic :D :D :D

SPOILERS!!!

maybe you would want to make a little more battle scenes between heroes, yes the storyline has fighting, but it does not have those 1 vs 1 hero and villian battle. the luther killing the doom guard scene was fantastic, thomas and the skeletons were also nice.

one more thing, the storyline has may twists, keep it up but dont go overboard :D :D

Chapter V better have more races - the an idea of just having Humans, Elves, Ancient Elves, Undead and Demons doesn't seem to be fitting your promises onthe Homepage.

Yes, I would love to see Algor vs. Thomas. I bet that battle will happen. Imagine Thomas becomes a Super Saiyan and Algor transforms into Stage 2, then 3, then 4! Wow, it would be great!

PS: I was joking, but I have a 99% feeling that battle WILL happen :bgrun:

Cool, same here though not as long, cause i am usually pretty tired at night. Sometimes i start writing stuff about my next cinematic or map and have to make my self stop to be able to stay awake the next day. I love my creative mind. :ggani:
