Alien vs Predator: Warcraft skin tests

I've been doing some more experimenting in skinning, in order to see just how much I can do for DarkPrimus' and my upcoming total conversion.

One I posted a few days ago on GameProc, and the other is newer. Both are simply tests done in Photoshop 6.0, and would probably have to be modifies or simply redone if I were doing an entire skin.

Anyway, this one is of the standard Predator mask, based heavilly on a photograph of the film prop. The glare might have to be redone, depiending on how it looks in-game (I might choose to look around for a WC3 unit that has a similar-shaped face).

Also, here is the test skin I posted in the AvP:WC forum on GameProc. It is of a Marine Smart Gunner's chestplate, drawn purely from memory, and was done mostly to just find a proper method of doing camouflaged armor.

I considered posting in there, since they aren't for an existing model, but I felt they had enough relevance to my WarCraft III mod to not be simply off-topic.

I was trying to think of a unit with a sloping forehead and flat face, but nothing is on my mind (haven't d/l the image extractor yet, either).

...Unless someone out there wants to create a Predator model for AvP:WC. *cough cough*

We had a try here at Wc3c a long time ago using the DH model... anyway the face may look distorted, and his moth ocasionnaly opens, so you myght want it edited for correcting these flaws and maybe making the model "stronger".

Thanks, but I think I'll continue to hold out for finding a modeller still.

Untill then, I might just use the Sasquatch/Wendigo model, fit the mask onto that, and use it just as a skinning test to check out how it looks on an in-game model.

That, or make a Predator test skin for Freedom Force, like back in the days when I was learning how to skin (speaking of which, did you know Donald Duck can look pretty damn good in a Green Lantern costume? :ggani: ).

I've been asking for a predator mask for a long time, and nobody ever did one for me. So my predator is a DH with no mask. :(

About 5 hours ago, I finished making a Predator test skin, pasting my Predator mask onto its face, and drawing the body by hand, using the Sasquatch model. The chest armor was done as sloppy, undetailed plates, and the rest of the armor is too simple. But again, if I were working on a real skin or tyring to show off my very best, I'd have taken the time to do arrurate armor details and keep the colors consistent. At least the flesh looks decent so far...

The problem is, and I hate to admit it, is that I cannot figure out how to load the .blp back into WarCraft III's .mpq file. I've got Image Extractor II and TechMPQ, but every time I try to add the file Sasquatch.blp into war3.mpq, under the name Units/Creeps/Sasquatch/Sasquatch.blp, It doesn't put the skin on any of the models in WE, and it changes the .mpq so that the new skin is the only thing in it that I can see in IE2. It's really pissing me off, and I've been trying to figure out what I need to do so it actually imports it porperly.

Hah-ha, problem solved! It took a while, but I got it on my own.

Ok, it's got a lot of issues and problems, and a bunch of stuff doesn't look right, but I think I've gotten a clearer idea of what I can/can't do for skinning, and what kinds of styles we'll be going for.

The notes are in the picture itself:

As I've stated above, I chose the Sasquatch model in order to test how my Predator mask rawing looked in-game, due ot the shape of its face, and added the body just to check out my texturing skills while I was at it.

I have no intention of using a single WarCraft III model in Alien vs Predator: Warcraft. Sinse it will be a Total Conversion, anything I do using WC3 models are simply skinning tests. I might do the same for a Xenomorph using a Hydralisk later today.

I'm getting the hang of importing sknis now, at least. While this Xenomorph test skin is much more simplistic than the Predator one (no fancy texture effects, and only done with 2 layers), it ends up looking a lot better overall, mostly due it the model's simplicity (and the source that Blizzard based the Zerg off of. *cough*).

I feel compelled to soon redo the skin with better shading and some more obvious Giger-esque details, at the very least to generate some attention for Alien vs Predator: Warcraft and hopefully recruit some modellers within the next few weeks.

Oh cool a AvP TC! There's going to be human marines too? Oh and now o know WHY you need modellers... maybe i should leave them to you and conform myself with my animated gif *sniff*:(

Yes, hence my signature and my recruitment thread in the Team Gathering forum. Just about everything (excluding minor changes expected to pop up in testing due to balancing issues) has already been designed. So it's a safe bet all the Marine, Predator, and Xenomorph units on my Overview pages are there to stay.

And I don't know what you mean by "leave them to you", or at least I hope I don't. I'd rather be forced to be in charge of an H.R. Puffnstuff mod than be forced to be in charge of modelling. emote_sweat

I'll write up half a page to describe each model's appearance, features, and animations, but modelling them is far beyond my abilities. Hell, I even refuse to be in charge of skinning except as a last resort. ;)
