town hall troubles (keep + castle modles look like a normal TH)

I have been having trouble with town halls. I am making a game called mini wars where everything is half size (tho all the units are space age). based on a barracks i made a set of 3 buildings, the Command Post, Command Complex (upgrade, first) and Command Nexus (upgrade, second). They are ment to look like samll TH, Keeps and castle. But they dont. they all look like town halls even tho i put modle Used t the castle and keep.

DO NOT TELL ME THIS: i have put "upgrade" annd "second/first" in required animation names. I have made sure it is exactly the same in this respect. What can i do to put this right.

PS: the same problem occurs with druids of the talon and claw modles and some other i can't be bothered to mension.

Ok here's your problem: You based it off a barracks. Warcraft3's unit data is very picky when it comes to using alternate/upgrade animations.

Here's your solution: Common sense dictates that you should base the buildings off their originals instead or just edit the originals. There's absolutely nothing that you can set in the barracks that you can't set in the other buildings, so why bother? Half your work is already done.

You'll have to go into details about the problem with other units because it's most likely a result of the same thing.

I seriously doubt you'd have any problems if you simply copied the castle without screwing around with the model animations and so forth, because I tested it to make sure I knew what I was saying right before I posted it. Remember that the castle animation will not show up in the world editor, only ingame.

... didn't i say i wanted to scale everything down? I think i did. 2 things i can't scale down tho and they are 1. the ground under the building (eg: pavment) and 2. shadows (all nomal units atre based on rats). So I can't really base it on the normal unit.

Ive got a problem along the same lines, you know the druid of the claw/talon models, what im making is a hero with the same model, meaning it is impossible to base my hero of the non-hero Dotc model.
How would i go about creating a hero with the Dotc model?

my question or his? o well mine was:

How do i get a CUSTOM unit NOT based or TH keep or castle to look like a castle or a keep? because they always look like a TH even tho their modles are that of the keep and castle and they have upgrade, fisrt/second in required animation names.

I dont know what zotax's question was but what i said about DOTC and DOTT is that you can't make a custom unit that look like a storm crow for example for the same reason as the TH problem. Of course bears are the same.

You can always base it on the appropriate TH model and edit the splat by hand.

if you look at the castle in the unit editor you will see REQUIRED ANIMATION NAMES, those are what determin what it will look like, its the same model, but it has different looks, Ie. the demon hunter has anmation names, there isnt a model for demon form, its the same demon hunter model useing different animation

Did you even read the thread? He already did that.

Wilbo, the graphics wont show in the WE, try ingame. Also, remember that u can do it by triggers.

parkan, how can i edit the splat?

SpectreReturns, I can always make it play it's "stand upgrade first" animation with triggers, however it also has a "stand work upgrade first" and several other animation that fall under the upgrade first or upgrade second.

also you say the graphics don't show ingame, that theorie can't work really as the normal castle and keep appear graphicly in the WE.

I believe there is something in the action list in trigger editor that is called "Edit Animation Tags" Or "Animation - Edit Animation Tags" something like that. Pick the unit and add those required animation names manually through triggers, I've heard it works.

Ok I want to know one thing: Why do you have a stringent aversion to not basing the buildings off a townhall or their respective upgrades?

The file you need to change the splat data is:
Splats\SplatData.slk
The file you need to change the shadow data is:
Units\UnitUI.slk

Doing it via triggers is more hassle then the outcome is worth. Because you'd have to have a trigger for every time the building changes graphic, from each time something is being built inside the unit to each time you start upgrading to change the animations and then the time when the upgrade is completed.

Also, try to avoid being a smartass to me, it wouldn't be wise. You neglected to say anything about wanting to change Shadow or Splat data, you just mentioned in a roundabout way that you wanted the smaller models.

Theory? It's not some crass hypothesis spun out of thin air my dear boy. I said it myself that if you base the units off the original models you will find that the graphics will not show up in the World Editor but they will ingame. And ...didn't I say that I tested it to make sure? I think I did :).

I don't want to do anything that would require winMPQ as that would mean that if somone who didn't know opened it in the WE they would get a nasty suprise. I found out that even when i created new unit with base keep and changed nothing it STILL looked like a TH. in the end i have decided to use a custom set like burrow or barracks and then orc TH.
