New Campaign! Warcraft III: Before the Chaos MOD

Hello, I've been wanting to make a campaign of this for a while now. Basically, I want to make new campaigns for the all the races that fill in the gaps in the Warcraft 3 storyline. For the Night Elves, we will have a campaign that deals with when the Burning Legion first encountered them when Furion and Cenarius fought them off, as well as the story behind Illidan's imprisonment. The Humans will deal with the events between Beyond the Dark Portal and Reign of Chaos. They will be putting the orcs into internment camps and fighting the remaining clans (led by Kilrogg Deadeye and Grom Hellscream), fighting the Dragon Queen, and trying to discover the reason behind the orc's lethargy. The Undead campaign will deal with the transformation of Ner'Zhul into the Lich King, Kel'Thuzad and the Cult of the Damned, the conquest of the northlands, and the fight with the Nerubian/spider-race underground. The Orc campaign will fall closely to the storyline of the Lord of the Clans, as Thrall seeks to restore the honor to his people and embrace their shamanistic culture. We will see how he finds the ancient Frostwolf clan and obtain the Doomhammer, as well as join forces with Hellscream. These campaigns will go in transition processes; working first on multi-player maps to balance the units and heroes. Also to be explained will be the unfolding of Medivh atoning from his darker side into the guardian he becomes in Warcraft 3. The Before the Chaos campaigns will have 5 heroes (NO flying heroes I promise; too dumb and bad rushes), and will follow some of the more pre-beta gameplay elements, as well as an array of modified and different units. Here's some of the heroes, units, and abilities that I think should be in so far:

As you can tell, this project is huge. However, this will be taken in SLOW steps. There's no reason trying to slap a product together. People from all fields are wanted (Spell-editing, concept art, skinning, modelling, storyline and dialogue, cinematics, terrain and tile editors, voice actors, mapmaking, the wahzoo), so anyone who wants to join a section of the project is completely and totally welcome. I would appreciate comments, posts, and thoughts! Post here if you would like to join or simply e-mail me at [email protected]! Thank you,

Martin

your idea is very good. I can be a mapper. but there are pretty much ideas from TFT in it and that may violate copyrights.

Regarding your TFT worries, all of this is before RoC, so I really don't see any TFT problems. Second, the whole story line, besides minor corrections to incorporate more campaign levels, follows the plot that Blizzard has already laid out. Third, this is a mod, and since there is no money being made, there is no reason to worry about copyrights anyway. Just some thoughts, although I respect your concerns.

It looks like it is well thought out and could be great but you are thinking way too ahead. Just plan for making one, and when you finish if you are still up for it. Begin making the another part. If you don't focus one at a time you will collaspe and be stuck with some unfinished maps and all your ideas shall be wasted.

Regarding the questions I have been pressed upon involving Medivh, as well as others:

1. Will Medivh be involved in this campaign? Yes. I wrote this in my first post: "Also to be explained will be the unfolding of Medivh atoning from his darker side into the guardian he becomes in Warcraft 3." However, exactly how he is to be included I do not know. Medivh was originally the son of the guardian Aegwyn. Aegwyn defeated demonlord Sargeras (One bad mofo who was a lot more powerful than Archimode), leader of the Burning Legion, in single combat. She entombed the demon under the Great Sea off the coast of the nation of Azeroth. However, from his tomb, Sargeras secretly bonded his malevolent spirit with that of Aegwyn's unborn child. During the following years, Aegwyn knew it was time to pass on her title of guardianship. She quested to find the perfect mate that would father her heir, finally choosing the Azerothien Conjurer Nielas Aran. In the fall 559, Aegwyn gave birth to Medivh or "Keeper of Secrets" in the Elven tongue. She transferred all of her power and knowledge into Medivh, burying it deep within him so that it would only manifest when Medivh reached maturity. The Guardian then left Medivh to the Azerothien court, keeping a watchful eye over her son. Soon Medivh's Age of Ascension, a Human tradition marking the transition from childhood to adulthood, is at hand. Medivh is expected to be granted the title of Apprentice Court Conjurer and follow in his father's footsteps. That evening Medivh is awakened by a dark nightmares and seeks out his father Aran. Upon touching his son's brow, the childs eyes ignite in fire. The Trisfal energies inside him lash out across the astral plane, alerting Clerics all the way in Northsire Abbey. The Clerics rushed to Stormwind castle within an hour. Only were Aran and a hundred of those Clerics able to hold the magiks eminating from Medivh. This containment lasted for days, requiring the might of all the men present. Finally, as fast as it had begun, the energy backlash stopped. Medivh fell into a deep coma, while his father Nielas Aran collapsed dead on the floor. As he slid into a deep coma, Medivh was cared for by the clerics at Northshire Abbey. When he awoke six years later, Aegwyn detected the corruption that marred Medivh's soul. Sargeras had twisted the boy's spirit into one of malice and hate. Conseqently, Medivh made his infamous pact with Gul'dan and sought the destruction of Azeroth. Horrified at his actions, Aegwyn sought out to bring reason to her son. However, with the power of Trisfal behind him, Medivh easily defeated his mother. Aegwyn returned to Azeroth and visited King Llane, warning him of Medivh's power. The King took decisive action, sending a warband into the mad sorceror's tower and cutting him down. *Cheers to Legends of Azeroth for providing most of this info.*

Now, Medivh is dead at this point, well as much as we know. But then he magically appears in Warcraft 3, and is the guardian we now know and love. How did he live? How did he suddenly turn into a goody little two-shoes? How did he defeat the dark power that clings to his soul? Why the heck, if he has the friggin' powers of Sargeras in him does he not kick the flippin' crap out of Archimonde and the Burning Legion? These are the sorts of questions that I would like to answer in this mod.

2. So what are we to do with Medivh? Where should we put him? I think there are several options here. We could have a mini-campaign for him (have it be sort of like the orc prologue), have him in cinematic sequences throughout the campaigns, or have him interact with certain characters throughout the levels. For instance, you could have Medivh warning Kel'Thuzad before he joins Ner'Zhul. You could have Medivh surveying the Undead and the plague in the northlands, or visiting Ogrimm Doomhammer in his hermit hut. Whatever you guys would like, I'm up for.

3. Medivh with Aedelas Blackmoore? This is hardly a likely alliance. Blackmoore is one bad dude, and as far as Warcraft 3 is concerned, Medivh turned into a goody. Blackmoore raised Thrall and gave him human understanding/wisdom/intelligence for one reason - to get Thrall to take control of the Horde. Once Thrall was in control, Blackmoore planned to puppet Thrall and the Horde to destroy the Alliance and take control of it for himself. However, he didn't make Thrall that dumb.

4. Campaign sequence: Yes, I agree. Only one campaign should be there at a time. This is what I think the sequence of campaigns should be (it should be chronological):
- Night Elf (as this is way, way back)
* Medivh mini-campaign (if we plan to do one; I think this one should be more of an RPG sort of one, so we can have some fun with triggers and other stuff like that.)
- Undead (Ner'Zhul's transformation; this one can be swapped around, but I thought it would make more since if human/orc were right next to each other).
- Human (Should we include Arthas or not?)
- Orc (This one appears to fit the most for the last campaign as to how it fits in relation to the others)
- Bonus levels (maybe include some bonus levels later for people who do really well on certain scenarios?)
However, before we do ANY campaigns, we really need to get cracking on the multi-player maps, with units, spells and abilities, heroes, etc. So if any of you guys know anyone who can help with these please ring them up. Believe me, there is plenty of work for everyone.

5. What needs to be worked on the most right now? Spells, skins, models, and maps. As well as some storywriting (as that is going to take some time). I will post the exact projects needed to be taken care of soon in another post.

://// Alexian, again, as I have stated in several, several posts. This will be a SLOW project, starting with multiplayer maps and evolving into the Campaigns. The campaigns WILL be done one by one, and released in sequence. I am in no means trying to release this in one go; I agree, that would end up being a wasted effort.

:ggani: Skins: (for any skin pics/concepts e-mail me at [email protected], *You can make the skins look like whatever you please; I'm just giving some helpful suggestions.)
Crusader (priority: high)- Use knight skin (Should we do a model edit and change the joust to a sword like in the pre-beta? I have a pic). I'm thinking some simple hair color changes, armor additions/removals, and maybe making him look a little holier/nobler would do the trick.
Aedelas Blackmoore (priority: minimum) – Same as crusader skin, except hair should be black, and he should have a mustache with a goatee. Also, he should have a tattoo running from his forehead to his eyelid on his left eye. Give him some good shadows around the face, we want to make him look like a baddy.
Rhonin (priority: minimum) – Same as apprentice mage skin, except he needs a goatee, with no mustache. Perhaps make his clothing a little more common, as this rogue wizard is not very respected around his other wizard brethren.
Thrall (non-Farseer) (priority: minimum) – Arthas skin edit. This has already been done, and it looks quite good. I think that a simple model edit might be done here as well, to make the paladin's maul a smidge shorter to make it look like a hammer.
Spirit Walker (priority: high) – I am not quite sure what skin this should be used for yet. We could use the same one used for Thrall, but I was thinking that maybe we could use the Green Orc Warlock model. Cookie already fixed his head up so he doesn't look like a retard. Just add on a hero glow and this might work. Hmm… maybe we could stick the head of the shaman on top of the warlock.
Ranger (priority: high) – Sylvanus Windrunner edit. I've already finished this one. I'll post some pictures of it shortly.
Vereesa Windrunner (priority: minimum) – I'm just going to edit my ranger skin a bit, and give her the black/grayish hair that she has.
Shadow Hunter (priority: high) – The TFT one looks good to me.
Ragine (priority: minimum) – I'm thinking that this will be an edit of the Shadow Hunter skin for TFT, but without the mask on.
Mondane (priority: minimum) – This is just a Lich edit. I don't really have any big ideas for this one; also probably because this character isn't very fleshed out.
Dera' Tol (priority: minimum) – This should be pretty easy. We're just doing a skin edit of the Slavemaster/Chaos Warlord. Suggestions that I have would be make his skin green, mess with his armor a bit, and change the horse color. A little model editing might be required on this guy to buff him up.
Warlord (priority: high) – Exact replica of Dera' Tol
Assassin (priority: minimum) – Old warden edit. I think that the superhero mask around her eyes should be taken away, but maybe put some tattoos or runes on her face? Some color editing here would also work.
Arch Druid (priority: high) – Furion skin edit. Make his beard look more like a treebeard – with roots, branches, leaves, and so forth.
Owl Bear (Arch Druid's Force of Nature form) (priority: high) – Owl bear edit. Put roots and vines running up and down his body. Include some more bark in him, make him darker, and have some moss/fungi growing too.
Illidan Stormrage (priority: minimum) – Demon Hunter edit. Take away the bandana and give him some eyes. He didn't lose those yet.
Ancient of Wrath (priority: high) – Treant edit. Make him look darker, older, and more brambly and thorny. Make the leaves on him black?
Kel'Thuzad: Human form (priority: minimum) – Arch Mage/Dark Wizard edit. Make him with brown hair, a dark, shadowed face, and crazy red eyes.
Cultist (priority: high) – Acolyte edit; put dark scriptures/runes around the cloaks; make their skin black and their cloaks black and dark blue.
Zombie (priority: high) – More Purple, poisonous looking and deadly. More deadly looking eyes.

All think of some skinning projects, and other project soon. Just post which one you'd like to do, so we don't make a zillion of the same; well, you can still do your own if you want to. Anyway, that's all I really have for now. Please post with any comments, and tell me what you think we should do to the skins/models,

Martin :ggani:

Hey,by the way why call Blackmoore a "Crusader"?He' s hardly a paladin of the Silver Hand!
