Good Idea? Bad Idea?

I'm finishing up a map at the moment and I started thinking about new map ideas. I came up with three ideas which by the way are all themed on Lord Of The Rings (the Return of The King).

Ideas:
1. The Battle Of Minis Tirith (The Main Fortress Of Gondor)

2. The Battle Of Osragath (The Gondorian City on Southern part of Minis Tirith.

3. The Battle Of The Great River (Minas Tirith and Osragath battles BOTH fought and after they are fought, the counter attack...aka The Invasion of Mordor).

Which Idea Is The Best?

oh, oh, 3, ive read the books, and seen the movies, lotr is a good rpg for wc3, its very compatable, I think, the more you can do in a map, the funner it is, if its long and diverse, balanced, fair... those are qualites of a good map, if you play an unfair game where comp can kill u in 1 hit, do you enjoy it much?
it MUST be balanced, fun, fairly long to be a great rpg!!!

Though I didn't get as many votes as I wanted, I made my choice with both the battles of Osragaht and Minis Tirith and the Counter Offensive into Mordor. Btw, if you want to see what I'm modeling the map off of, here is where the battle will be fought at inside middle earth (circled in black in picture)

If i were any of you I wouldnt make a LOTR map. The problem is that alot of newbie map makers made alot of gay Helms Deep and LOTR maps that they gave it a bad name. Out of 20 LOTR maps only 1 is ALRIGHT. So evenif you do make a really good one, people woundt be so willingto test it out.

I agree. If you want to make an RPG, give it a different name although certainly you can base some of the ideas of it off of LOTR. As said, no one will pay attention if it has anything to do with LOTR.

Yes, johnfn and the others are right. LOTR is becoming too overused and there are way too much "Battle of Minas Tirith" and "Battle of Helm's Deep" games out there. Make an original map, for example, where you have to protect your fortress from an onslaught of creeps.

heez, I was wanting to make a Minas Tirith Map but gave up in the end. Anyway, here's the half done terrain (no decorations of any kind) of minas tirith with some stupid triggers just to test the time it takes to run up and down the 7 levels. Wouldn't say its good or anything though...

If you want a cool epic battle in Tolkien's world, take Nirnaeth Arnoediad (sadly the Elves lost), or the last battle against Morgoth (The War of the Great Wrath I think) in the Silmarillion. That way you'll have originality, and you'll be able to use many more units (dragons, eagles and flying ships... for the second one !). Or take Dagor Dagorlad, that lasted for one month, where Sauron was defeated by the Last Alliance and had to lock himself for seven years in Barad Dûr. Or the final battle on the slopes of Mount Doom at the end of the siege of Barad Dûr, the one seen at the beginning of the first movie. They are greater than any battle in Lord of the Rins, even than the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, and they have lots of people fighting (greater diversity of units) and are never used.
If you need any "historical" precision I can help.

Some precisions : I'd say Osgiliath (and not Osragath, which doesn't exist), former capital of Gondor, is located rather to the east and a little to the north of Minas Tirith rather than to the south.

No, it isn't. He isn't gathering a team for his map, and he's not showing his progress or completed work. He's asking for opinions, so this is exactly the right forum.
