How to add new/old units to the game

I posted this in the war3pub forum. These mod are for the 1.13 version of the beta. but its easy to adapt them for the 1.21 version.
Here are 2 exemples

How to add the Ranger:


The Ranger was a female Half-Elf hero with a powerful ranged attack. She was a mystic and mysterious unit with elemental attacks.
She was an excellent scouting unit, the swiftest in the game.



She was Removed from game, and many of her skills transferred to the Priestess of the Moon.(her skills and abilities are still in the beta, but model and sounds are missing)

1. Find Model and Sounds.

Since there are currently no mdx/mdl converter, we have to use an existing model.
I used the NE archer (it s the only female archer available)

. extract the folder Units\NightElf\Archer\ from the war3beta.mpq
. rename this folder HeroRanger and move it to Units\Human\
. rename all the Archer*.* HeroRanger*.* (the .mdx, the .blps, the .wav, etc...)



2. Adding the Ranger to the Gameplay.

Hran will be her unitID

Open the file Units\humanunitfunc.txt (with the notepad or other text editor)
and add the folowing lines:

and add the ranger to their build list:

Open the file Units\HumanUnitStrings.txt
and add the folowing lines:

Note: there are no Ranger ScoreSreen icon (and no PotM icon either)

Now have to add a Hran line in all the unit related slk.
Download my .slk from:

for each slk search and copy the Hran line and copy it in your slk.


3. Giving her some spells

If you look in the unitabilities.slk
under heroAbilList will see those spells/abilities:

AHca: Cold Arrows (upgradeable)
AEpa: Poison Arrows (upgradeable)
AHas: Swiftness Aura (upgradeable)
AEba: The Black Arrow (Ultimate Spell)

To add those spell you can directly copy my modified files in your Units\
It will not mess up your other spells.So, copy:
herodata.slk
HumanAbilityStrings.txt
umanabilityfunc.txt


to limit the number of Ranger:
in Scripts\blizzard.j
find the line

How to add Hellscream to the game:

The mighty Chieftain of the Warsong clan is as ferocious as his battle cry. Hellscream has long waited to venture into Azeroth and prove the dominance of the Warsong clan on the field of battle. Although Grom distrusts the shaman Ner'zhul, he will lead his clan screaming onto the fields of battle.


It is like for the ranger, but Hellscream has a model, and a nice glowing one (the result looks better :D ).
He has nothing else: no button, no sounds, no stats, no portrait.
So i gave him the berserk button, a mix of grunt, blademaster, shaman sounds (mostly shaman).
For the portrait, hmmm..., there is no portrait, it's only black (but if you want you can give him the samwise cube, it works as portrait too).
In the story, Hellscream must be a blademaster, he has the Whirlwind and the Critical Strike spells. His Stats looks like the blademaster's stats, but his primary attribute is the Strengh.

I added some extras:

  • Command Aura (with better stats as the Gnoll King's Aura)
    Lightning Bolt (but it doesnt look cool on him, he has no spellcast animation)
    The total Immunity to ennemy spells.
    A build-in Regeneration Aura (like the fountain of life, without the mana regeneration and not so fast).
But you need a Stronghold to summon him.

if you just want Hellscream, download just the orc*.txt ,download my .slk and add the Ohel line in all your unit related slk. You cant directly copy the herodata.slk, it will not mess up your other hero's spells.
and copy the files from the hellscream files link.

But if you just copy all the files, it will also add:


  • The Windserpent for the human (you just have to extract the Windserpent folder from war3beta.mpq and copy it to Units\Human\Windserpent\ )
    The Ranger (you just need the HeroRanger folder with the renamed Archer files in it)
    The Ogre Titan :D
    The Mighty Flame Throwing Sheep (someone posted something about him, a funny joke unit with nice attack but only 15 HP :D )



NOTE: you can make some change in the blizzard.j to count him in the hero limit.
If you think this Hellscream id too powerful (he is), change the stats and abilities in the slks.
If you have better sounds for him, just name them correctly (for exemple HellscreamPissed2.wav) and put them in the Hellscream folder.
I've already checked the warcraft2 files, and found nothing for him ( the Death Knight speaks too slowly, and the grunt sounds stupid).

If you check out gambit's mod for 1.13 it adds all of this and soem other stuff. If anyone could take this and make it applicable for 1.21 it would be appreciated.

Gambit's mod ?
its just a mirror of my files, ;) ...
anyway, its possible to make the same things in 1.21.
And more:
There is now a new abilities slk, an ability can now have alias, so you can make many version of a single ability (with each, different stats or diffrents summoned unit).
but i had no time to test it or to update the mod for 1.21.
