Yes... I found an easy way to crack one type of map protection. I'm not sure which it is, all I know is it puts an "~unknowns" directory in the .w3m.

I had full access to all the terrain and unit placement. The only thing I couldn't get at in WE was the triggers, but those even were in a text file I could access, and see all the functions.

If anybody knows the author of this type of protection I suggest they fix it ASAP.

Also for the sake of the author I won't post his stuff here... but anybody using map protection might want to check and make sure they don't have a map with an "~unknowns" directory in it.

yes it was the newest version of ExtProtect

Actually, that has been known for like... forever. It's relatively easy to get to terrain/units.

I got the triggers too...

And I'm not releasing the method, so don't ask. Not only do I refuse to ruin the handful of great maps we have, but I told Extrarius that I wouldn't say a word.

the GUI triggers shouldnt be there, they are deleted when the map is protected.

anyone who has the knowledge to do this is a mapper themselves and doesnt want maps to be stolen so i dont think this is a problem... most ppl that edit maps are hc noobz and make only a few small changes...

Like I said, I got the triggers, just not GUI ones. No matter though, I can read this stuff like a picture book.

yes unfortunly there is no way to fully protect any w3m file because it still needs to be read by the game. the best we can do is edit the listfile to not have anything in its path. Removing the war3map.wtg keeps the map from being opened in WE and stops noobs from rigging or editing 1 thing and calling it thier own.

Wow, with all the things you said I think It would be easy to do a map unprotector application. I'll try when I'll get time...
