This is just a cut-and-paste from a Quantam post on another forum. Quote:
Nice to see they're not standing still. |

On the forums i've already stated the fishiness of this post some of those things which there "looking in to" are so easily solved that it seems ridiculus that they have probs with them. |

I prefer the stuff from blizzard, maybe if they are having problems. Why dont they come to us? lol Well I like the stuff blizzard gives us, it gets rid of newbies (sometimes). |

I'm pretty sure that post was made a long time ago. Someone gave me a link a good few weeks before I read your post BlacKDick. It's more than likely just smoke up our ass, true, Blizzard might release some stuff, but I don't think they're gonna release it tomorrow. Though right after this post I'm probably gonna see patch 1.02 with brand new world editor, heh. Looks like I might be eating my words for dinner tonight. |

Guest | When is a new atch coming anyway? It would be nice if they add war3patch_low/mid.mpq in it so we can have graphic packs |

Guest | i wish we could turn regular units into custom heroes (with hero abilities, and the cool hero aura thing) inside the world editor. |

The hero aura thing is part of the model, so that's not possible woithout a bunch of new models. |

damn people, the aura is NOT part of the model. The aura is a self image, that is why it can be used on all the heros. The only spell I have noticed SO FAR that was modeled into the model was that whirlwind that hero does. In WE you will see ALL of the units animations on the left side. Thats ALL of them! Auras are seperate from the units. |

He means the hero glowing thing, not the graphic that is displayed when you have an aura skill. |

Guest | Actually the glowing is just a round image that is glued to the model and told to always face the camera. You can find the image for it in one of the lists in the image extractor utility. I kind of hope Blizzard lets us modify that so I can turn it off cause I want the units to look alittle cleaner. |

Heh, look in the tutorial section, I TELL you how to remove hero glow, it's the simplest trick. Go to "MDX Editing" on the wc3campaigns tutorial page. Hero glow is a set of flat planes at various locations on a hero model. Each plane is set ot use a texture that is shared by most heros, though some have different exact auras, they are almost always referenced in the MDX has replaceableid x. It's a simple trick to replace the path to the texture in the mdx file to a pure alpha texture included in the war3.mpq file. Anyway, read the tutorial, it tells you exactly how to do it. The only problem is, in order to ADD hero glow to a unit, you have to add a plane to the model, unfortunately, the closest thing we have is a special effect. Theoretically you could just replace a texture for a special effect that occurs at the base of a unit like "teleportation" and replace the texture with a black rgb layer and a gradial ball (center white, outskirts black) as the alpha channel, then attach the special effect to the unit in WE. Sorry fellas, this is probably our best current hope. Anyway, I'm off to sleep, check out the tutorial, apply where possibilites make themselves seen, and you will go far. |
