Getting Results from the MDX Petition

To further support the petition we've launched, it must be kept in mind that online petitions do not hold the same weight as a standard petition, and definately not as much weight as an actual letter.

We do not intend to provide a form letter for you to mimic, as those carry less weight.

If you truly support this effort, we ask that you write a letter to Blizzard Entertainment, expressing to them in a paragraph or two (or three) why you feel it is necessary to make such a tool available to the modding community.
Click Read More for more information on how to write to Blizzard

At the time of this announcement, there were 310 signatures.... that's 310 people who support the release of this tool. If you support this effort, the best way you can help is by writing a letter to:

George Wang
Blizzard Entertainment
P.O. Box 18979
Irvine, CA 92623

Tell Blizzard in an intelligent, thought out letter why you feel it is important to release such a tool to the community. Only then can we truly expect them to listen. George Wang is the Public Relations Coordinator for Blizzard Entertainment, and would be best equipped to pass such information to the development team and Blizzard's administrative board.

Please be sure to be eloquent and polite, and treat them with respect. Childish demands such as "Give me the tool or else" will serve only to weaken our case.

I would like to, but I'm wondering if he will understand my poor English :p
I'm gonna try :)

On a side note I wonder if a letter coming from France will be appreciated?

Instead of sending the letters dirrectly to Blizzard, maybe someone could hold them and send them so they arive in a big packet around the time the petition does.

Hmmmmmmm..... what if I were to suggest that everyone hold off on sending these letter until I give the word?

Write them, have them ready, but don't actually put it in the mailbox until we are ready to barrage them?

StarcraftFreak, I do not support hacks and dislike your site, but the Blizzard address can be found here:

BobtheTomato, that isnt a bad idea but let's be real, I doubt FM_Drax can pay the UPS package of thousands of letters to California, that would get him broke. kekeke

I think it's going a little overboard just for an MDX tool. I won't write, but I will support it in any other way.

If you review the MacRadio broadcast, they offer a lot of insight into online petitions and how to get real results.

As this site and station is well reputed, I'm willing to take their advice, especially when additional research earlier today echoes their suggestions.

If we want REAL results, the petition alone will no accomplish this. How difficult is it to write a letter?

It looks like anyone can sign a petition and put "I want to model but i cant because im noob :(" but not a single person can write a letter. And foreign letters will be the best, since they know that everyone wants this, not just us american junkies. You foreign junkies want it to. And heres words to stay way from in your letter: Bitch, I want, its our right, you suck, asshole, and all those other cuss words. Dont insult them in any way shape or form. Be nice, and simply tell them what you want, and why. and no "I want mdl/mdx converter because im noob" doesnt count. ;)

I would love to send such a letter but i really can't afford it.
I live in Bulgaria, which i suppose the most of you haven't even heard about,so the mail tax is going to be too big to do such a thing- about 15-20 $, and it may not sound much, but because of the poor standart in my country I really can't afford it.
But i convinced more than 20 people to sign the petition and told them to spread new about it, that was all i could do.

Alas, the moment of truth arrives. Sure, it's easy to type your email address into a form and say that you support something, but to truly support it is another story.

If you truly support this effort then what harm is it to write a letter and let Blizzard know?

I would like to say this is precisely why a letter carries so much weight to those saying that "this is going to far". You acknowledge that a letter does have much clout than signing a online petition if you are only willing to participate in the later. Sending a letter is a rare thing in these days with electronic communication and it used to be common place before computers believe it or not ;) . Sending a letter means you truely do care about having this tool available. It is still a small effort for probably one of the last tools we need to make any mod for warcraft 3.
The order of impact of different forms of communication looks something like this generally when contacting politicians and businesses.

forum post < online petition < email < telephone call < letter < physical visit to their offices < a million dollars

I didn't make this up just now either.
So if you signed the petition and you don't want to send a letter then you know how much you truely want this now. However it is perfectly fine if you truely don't care to have it enough to send a letter to blizzard. I know I will be sending a letter because I have worked many hours with Drax and Kdub on trying to repair the existing exporter and have made good progress with it. Sending a letter would be a relatively small effort compared to the work put into the existing exporters. However a fully functional exporter is a ways off, I can tell you this with first hand information. My fear is that developing the exporter will take so long that most warcraft 3 mods will die and warcraft 3 moding in general will have died out.
I ask one final question to those who are not willing to send a letter to blizzard. If this campaign to obtain the exporter is succesfull without your support, will you still use it?

I just don't think blizzard is going to care what some 16-year-old Warcraft fan says. I doubt any comment i make would make any real difference in thier opinions, sorry to say.
