Heya. While doing .mpq editing, I've come across a hurdle. It looks like WinMPQ is only letting my add 46 things to my .w3m file. Is this a problem other people have been experiencing? Is it an issue with the number or size of files, or what? Please post a picture of a slice of ham or a tuna cassarole in your reply; I'm hungry. |

If you do a search on the forum you'll see that others have had this problem (the link to the search page is a little hard to find, but it's at the bottom of each page). They may have different/better solutions than mine. MPQ files have in their "nature" a maximum number of files that they want to hold. As you've noticed, the mpq's produced by WE only want to hold 40 or so files. This isn't a limitation of the mqp format, merely the ones made by WE. WC3 (and we, for that matter) are more than happy to *open* mpq's containing more files. If memory serves me, there are two ways around this. The first is to create an empty mpq that will hold more files (I think that winmpq has a way to do this naturally, but I'm not positive). The other way is to make a copy of war3patch.mpq, empty it of files, and use that for your map. Of course, you'll have to do this each time you save, which can be a chore, but I don't think there's a way to have WE "naturally" make larger mpq files. |

So, I cracked WinMPQ open and started toolin' around, looking for a way to open it up to more files. I made a new .mpq and started to fill it, and hadn't hit a limit by 107 files. If I understand correctly, then, this means I could extract my map information from my map's .w3m to a directory, make a new .w3m natively in WinMPQ, and add the map's info as well as all the additive files, and that would work? I don't suppose a different program can just crack the limit on existing files? EDIT: and you didn't post a picture of food in your reply. I'm upset. |

Like this: So, I found this in Starcraftfreak's FAQ thread: Quote:
So, here's where I really want to hear that I don't have to open it up in a hex editor, because I don't know a whole lot about that. |

If you have the newest version of WinMPQ, there is a way to do that without the hex editor. Check in the Tools menu for something that says "Mpq Embedder". If it is there, open it up. If it isn't, either download the newest version of WinMPQ, or download that program separate. After you have created your new mpq with all of the files you want in it for the map, make a copy of your original .w3m file (don't use the original). Open the copy of your .w3m in Mpq Embedder, click remove mpq, then add mpq (may not be exact name on button). In the open dialog box, select the new mpq you created as the file to add. |

Well, I did succeed in insta-learning how to do the hex part of it. Apparently I have an older WinMPQ as it did not have an .mpq embedder. Unless there's another compelling reason to upgrade, I won't bother. Manually worked just fine for me. Besides, then I can tell folks how it used to work "in the good old days" and various related things. It's important to me. If you're reading this thread trying to do the same thing, I found that the Hex Workshop worked just fine as a hex editor. And in case you thought I didn't notice, I did see that you didn't post a food object with your reply. Here's one: |

Thanks Shadowflare. I didn't think of this way doing this (I have the new version since it's release). I'll add it to the FAQ as well as an explanation what a HEX editor is. BTW, why are you posting pictures of food? |

to respond to the orginal question. To add more than 64 files use zepirs editor. Just open the file and close it. Bang u have more than 64 file capacity. Good luck! |

Well, but there are many people that don't use Zepirs editor. Also this shows, that this editor is (although it's good) in some way bad programmed (sorry for this Zepir). I will tell Zepir that his editor should not do that automatically. This means that it increases the map size as this means that the hash table (don't ask me about that) will be made bigger. |
