About how many new spells (not modified or trigger based) would make a computer lag when playing on bnet?. I heard that it was alot, but a lot could be 10 or 100, will someone who has had experience with this plz tell me |

Guest | The slower the computer....the less spells it can handle (video wise if casted at the same time) As far as new spells being loaded from the map being the problem, I dont think there is an issue with it like the Doodads. |

i know that. I am asking how many spells would make ANY computer that could run it in the first place lag. Is there an amount of lagfree spells that can be added b4 the lag cuts in? If there arent any, then how many new spells would make this computer lag? 1ghz 256 mg sd ram geforce 2 I dont have this computer, but its about the minimum that people play wc3 with (No offense to anyone that runs it with lower than this system, i feel your pain, believe me!!) |

Guest | Technically your loading all the spells with your custom map anyway. AbilityData.slk files loads them all whether your using the spell or not. If your having a lag issue with your spells then you probably got your AbilityData.slk wrong or it corrupted in the save. |

but i hear that if u add too many spells to the .slk that it will cause ur map to lag. Are u telling me that it doesnt? And KDE, thats not what were talkin about |

I'm sure if you put a few thousand spells in your map it may start to lag. Short of that, I don't think you have too much to worry about :P. You'd have to know whether or not wc3 loads abilitydata.slk into active memory or not to really how much of affect a huge number of spells would have. ~kharma |

thx karma, but how would i got about finding out about that active memory thing? |

Guest | All the spells are loaded in to the ram portion for later use when you run the map, otherwise you wouldnt need a generic screen to load your spells in the right positions or have to reload it without the generic screen. To test the difference (which a few lines of text would hardly make a difference) I would check a ram optimizer for how much ram the huge list of spells would take up vs regular spells. Very rough, but I doubt there would be a difference in either case. You would have to have a LOT of spells. |

Guest | one thing though-- it seems that some specific spells can cause lag, for example, i have noticed that in dota there is often lag when the storm... thing.... goes into a place where a lot of demanding graphic things are happening (esp when it's got that spell going that makes its attack speed insane). |

Guest | Thats not lag......that a drop in frames per second because your video card cant handle the amount of data being displayed at one time. Lag are specific packets sent to your machine too fast for you to handle, or not enough at one time via udp. udp is a protocol that doesnt need an acknowledment and is thus sent to you nonstop. If you didnt get one of the packets that would update the game it would appear to lag. Your problem is processor, graphic, or whatever and not based on a packet. Come to think of it, you technically dont lag anyone with 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 spells because it is all already in memory when you loaded it. Thus meaning it would be a processor problem not a network issue unless that many spells were cast faster than the packets could handle, dropping everyone or "splitting" |
