I'm making an AOS type map called War of the Ancients. It is more like the "original" AOS type map (Aeon of Strife) for StarCraft. It has 18 heroes on each of the two sides (Kaldorei and Burning Legion with custom spells and some have custom skins (check the skins gallery "night elf-ification" thread for screenshots) Terrain: 50% Skins: 100% Spells: 4% Triggers: < 1% Time spent on it so far: 6-8 hours (inclucing making custom skins) |

No, the spells will not be from DotA. No, the gameplay is not exactly like that in DotA. No, this map will not "copy" DotA. The custom spells I am making are being made entirely by me. Some will probably seem like DotA spells cause you can only edit spells so much (if you've edited spells before you would obviously know this). Here is the minimap. To set the record straight, Aeon of Strife was the first type of map in this catergory, to come out for Warcraft3 but it was not original, AoS is actaully a port from Starcraft. If you want to think of it as a copying, then DoTA is a copy of "Aeon of Strife", all the tower defences are copies of "Turret Defence". |

All I'm going to say is: 1) Good luck. 2) Put something original in it. All maps so far are getting better and having one step further. You have to get another step to beat DOTA. BTW: I was actually playing the ORIGINAL turret defense with the ORIGINAL creator of Turret Defense. No one believes me though... but I'm actually telling the truth. |

How is it like the original AoS? The whole charm of the first AoS was that the sides were uneven. The side you play one was to weak to win, and the heroes are the only chance. You can't really get that across in two teams fighting. |

Lets see... something new... something new... I could switch it to 1 side with heroes on it but that isnt original to warcraft 3. Hero Siege has that feature. I could really get some help with ideas... I could have the ability to call down green dragon / black dragon attacks (depending on the side you are on). It would be a spell from a hero that has select hero so you could use the spell... that would work... I think. Or something from the original AoS where there are sneak attacks. I dont think those two sound good... Oh well. I'll think of something at school tomorrow. Oh and I played the original World of WarCraft map with the maker of the original World of WarCraft map... someone named yoda_24... oh wait... that was me. Though there was this one time I was playing it and one guy was accusing me of not being the maker of the map and that I had stolen the name (yoda_24)... |

How about extending it to a day vs. night theme, whereby one team is stronger and sends more forces during the day, while the other team sends more during the night. Heroes would then be able to stage their attacks at strategic times. Also staging points are also a good idea, like in Keys of Sealing, where specific points near the centre of the map can be taken over by either side to enhance their army. You can also add in optional quests for either side that benefits them in some way, such as upgrades for armies, creep reinforcements etc. ~kharma |
