Differences between Maps/Mods/Campaigns

I'm getting tired of people saying they are working on a mod when it just turns out to be a modified AOS game.

Map
-Can be anything that is a 1 map game, that you can play over and over. Something like AOS or a ladder game.
-Doesn't have a modified interface.
-Has anywhere from no to a major storyline.
-Doesn't normally have custom sounds, sometimes has custom skins, but not usually models.
-Sometimes has custom abilities.
-Isn't a modified warcraft 3.

Mod
-Can be multiple maps that don't have to be played in any sequential order.
-HAS a modified interface.
-Usually has an indepth storyline.
-Usually has custom sounds, skins and models.
-Has custom abilities.
-IS a modified warcraft 3.

Campaign
-Multiple maps played in a sequential order.
-Doesn't usually have a modified interface.
-Has an idepth storyline.
-Usually has custom sounds, skins and sometimes models.
-Has custom abilities.
-Isn't a modified warcraft 3.

These are some of the differences I just came up with now, feel free to post and add a few more, or edit this post (or I will). But please don't call an AOS game a campaign or a mod anymore. It's just a map.

Thats a pretty neat description. This said, the only real thing that limits a map compared to a mod is filesize. Especially if the map isn't a multiplayer one.

This said, a map, even multiplayer can have these at least :
Some custom tiles or cliffs (i have 2 unique tiles in the Cube NE), many custom icons (they don't take much space) some custom skins (only a few due their size atually often bigger than custom models) , a few custom models.

A few Interface modifications, but nothing from the main screen base panel. This said, rally points, confirmation arrows, attribute icons, quest menu icons, etc... all these work when implemented as custom ones.

A map can have a few custom sounds like my cube (actually i cheated there, they're just emplty souds as i wanted to make some souds silent with the least amount of space taken ^^

Also, a map of a high standard, reaching the quality of a mod will be much harder to create due to multiplayer limitations.

But of course, when you decide not to let these limitations restrict your creativity, it can lead you much farther.

This said, i am quite impatient to see what DCM will be like when finished, it is very promising

True, but there can be a campaign that can be a bazillion megs (well not really, but just stay with me) and a mod with only 100. Yet a map is pretty much limited to 4 megs.

Ah yes, we are alllll waiting for DCM top be completed. Even I am, well for TFT anyways.
