i guess that this is the right place to ask this... seeing that u guys know some stuff about bnet. ok here it goes:

when the whole game lags, and most of the players lag, is it because of the guy who hosted the game? because that is what i have heard on bnet.

and when u close and open the slots, does it put ur game at the top of the list? cause when i do that, people seem to join again. and i have also heard that doing the refresh the slots doesnt put ur list on the top.

It is not necessarily the guy who is hosting the game that is the one causing the lag. If anyone in the game lags, they will slow down the entire game, because the game MUST wait for everyone, it cannot go on ahead without someone.

I'm not really certain about the closing and opening slots thing, I remember when everyone would say "PRESS F4 IT MAKES IT GO FASTER" or, "IT REFRESHES IT!". I never bought that, sounded like crap to me.

I don't hear as much F4 spam anymore, which is good. There was no indication to me that it every actually did anything other than give people some finger excercise. My theory is that when people press F4, it distracts them for a second, and they feel as if they are doing something to make the problem better, so the time goes by faster and then someones download "goes faster", when this either is not happening, or would have happened anyway.

The slot thing however, I might believe, because when all slots are closed it likely sends a message to the B.net game servers that the game cannot be joined, and then opening one again sends a message to it that it can again be joined. A game might time out after a certain period of time, thus making it reapear on the list. I do it if people ask me too, but I will remain somewhat of a skeptic untill proof is provided. I have noticed people join right after though, but perhaps no more than normally would.

Sen is right. because the game has to be synced for proper gameplay, if someone is being laggy, other player's game will pause and get a waiting for player... box

i'll answer the other question he didn't answer. battle.net works in a decentralized manner. that sort of means everyone is the host after the game has started, and they connect to each other to send and receive information. so even if the host lags and gets dropped, the game can still continue

ps. the refresh thing works ONLY if you close ALL open slots and open them again

Well, it has the same effect as if you create a new game.
See, B.net (I have no facts to this, so it's more of a guess) thinks it's a new game, that just opened slots to join, and puts you on top of the list.

f4 never has worked and never will. If it did, then it would be stated by blizz somewhere.
