Im making a map and actually need help!

I read in a tutorial that i need to put my .txt and .slk archives in a folder named "Units" in the warcraft 3 directory. I did everything right. But when i try to give heroes the abilities in the World Editor, they just dont appear. I think they should come named as "Unknow+(alias)" but i cant c it.

Plz help me. I guess the error is cuz of the folder. i need a way to put my spell without using this "Units" folder.

Thx,
Heironeous

Well you cant give Units your spells without haveing them in that folder... The spells will come out as you named them in the -txt's and the .slk

what is also required for the spell to properly appear with its name in worldeditor, it requires that you correctly set its name in the corresponding *Race*AbilityStrings.txt file. of course this file must also be int the Units subfolder of your Warcraft 3 folder.

This said, that won't be enough.
You need to allow warcraft 3 and we to use locally stored files.

In order to do this, open regedit, look for the folder :
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III]

Then create a new DWORD key called "Allow Local Files"
and finally give it a value of 1

Then worldedit should definitely display your spell in the spells list.

When you have finished with editing your map, and successfully injected (implemented) all files in it with , for example, WinMPQ, make sure you set the value of that key back to 0 before attempting to play on bnet.

If you don't and some local files are in your warcraft 3 folder or subfolders, there is a chance that they intefere with warcraft's default files, and then cause crashes / desyncs.

Heironeous :

What you could actually do is put all your modified txt & slk files in a single zip file and attach it to your next post.

This way, i could investigate on what is not working.

The mistake you made was calling your spell Critical Strike in the orcabilitystrings. Change the filed called "Name=Critical Strike" to "Name=WaterBlade" and your problem will suddenly disappear ^^

Unfortunately that didnt solve the problem. i did it, even though the spell doesnt appear. Is there any other error or i should just resign to edit abilities ?

I wish i knew what you did, or what editor you use.

I just wrote the same spell, adding the dedicated lines in abilitydata.slk and the orcabilitystring&func txts, giving it the name "WaterBlade" and it definitely appears at the bottom list of the hero spells when i want to change a hero's abilities.

If you are really stuck or just can't find out what you could have done incorrectly, maybe posting your map with injected slk & txt files would allow me to give the hero you want this new spell.

I don't see what else i could do.

Here comes my map to test the abilties + Ability&Func.txt+SLK. The World Editor i use is WXtra-Edit.
By the way id like to know where i can download an extra editor named "Cookie" or something like that which comes with an archive named "AutoImplement.bat" to easily implement stuff in the game.
Thx,

I recommend Winmpq for implement, newest version of it works like a charm with .w3m files.

I think I've found your problem, "Waterblade" may still be listed as "Critical Strike" since you've left the tips and such still as it.
Also if you want the tips to show your skill info change AOcr to Aswb in those brackers.
Oh yeah, I was talking about OrcAbilityStrings.txt ....I should of said that first.:////

He didn't do anything wrong, didn't forget any important field.

Somehow it seems his abilitydata.slk file got corrupted.

What i did is remake the spell on a clean abilitydata.slk.

Here is your fixed test map :
