Guest | Well I've been at it (World Edit) for about 6 hours today doing some heavy terrain editing and I've gotten pretty good at making various ramps and correcting graphical glitches with them (where polys and edges are sometimes missing). Anyway, unlike StarEdit, ramps don't prefer to be on straight edges. By using a cresent shape at or over 4 1-point terrain pieces ( this format: /--\, /---\ etc.) long will usually generate a correct ramp without any missing polys/edges. Also, when creating ramps, create them before you do any height editing on the terrain. So, for instance, place your ramp before you raise the terrain on/around it to cut down on missing polys and rough edges. Try to use the same texture as the above and below while making the ramps (for instance, on snow based cliffs, use the snow texture when making the ramp) and then change it after you've correctly placed the ramp. WorldEdit seems compelled to create a 1-point texture (at least) path on a ramp (which usually causes missing polys on both edges of the ramp) if the ramps are created with textures differing the cliff's and grounds texture. However, after the ramp is in place feel free to change the textures on and around it to your liking. This helps keep rough edges/missing polys to a minimum. Well, that's about it for now. Doodad based ramps are pretty easy to make too, just gingerly use the ctrl-page(up/down) to get them the right height. Also, anybody know what causes the glitches involving 1-point pieces of raised terrain that simply won't go away? I've had a lot of those lately and the only solution has been to undo and choose somewhere else to raise/lower/make water. JakAttack -- Out! |

Guest | Shiza -- Posted this in the wrong forum. Oops :( Could anyone be kind enough to move it to the Map Creation forum? Thanks. |

Guest | Gr, one thing I really hate is bridges. Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't get them to fit, ever. I imagine it's the same kind of deal as ramps; maybe I'll try some of the things you suggested for using bridges. |

Guest | My problem with bridges is the fact that the game treats them as a separate area in game. Even if they are lined up correctly and seem to ininitally blend they will never look right in game because when there is black mask people can't see bridges until they are ON TOP of them. They also look preplaced no matter what you do to try and help that... Although, I have found that raising terrain around the bases of bridges slightly helps sometimes but makes the edges (cliff edges) stand out... Thanks Zepir. |
