Midi's in Maps - would my idea work?

Im in the process of making a Super Smash Bros map. Not a mod, but a map. I want it to be able to be played online because it was ment to be multiplayer, but the thing is....it wouldnt be Super Smash Bros if there wasnt Super Smash Bros music. And since ive made 8 full levels, all with completely different themes, this is a huge complication with my map. I was wondering if it is possible to implant new midi's into a map, and make them take the place of the old ones. Possibly extract the old midi's used for abient sounds, and just switch it out with a new one. I need to know if this is possible, because using Midi's is practically the only way that my map would have "life." Thank you for you time. :gsmile:

Midi's sound terrible in games like SC and WC3 maps IMO, but people can do what they wany.
I'd recommend you get mp3 versions of the midi's - surely there are remixed, mp3 versions out there...
Check Overclocked remixes, a great remix website (Search at google for it).

Ya, I know that midi's arent too good. Its just that the file size is much much smaller, and theres no way that an mp3 file could be the same size without sounding like pure static. I have to get 8 music files onto my map, but its also mandatory that it is played on battle.net. Its a super smash bros map, and needs to be multiplayer, yet at the same time, I need to be able to add music...or my map will be lacking greatly.

Kazaa and eDonkey has mp3 versions of SSBM music (Downloaded some myself). But I wonder the same as you. I got this R-e-a-l-l-y great midi-file that I'm gonna use in my cinematic. But the "midi-patch" in Wc3Map utilities dosn't do a thing.

I agree... I put in the Midi "Machine Gun Man" from FF8, and about 10 minutes into the game, it became daytime and I heard my midi being molded with ambient sounds, like the dog and the bell. They sound horrible on both Sounds and Music settings, so don't even try it... they sound perfect in the WE though...

Something interesting is that I found a file named Midi Support (or something like that) in my War3 file. So, maybe the crew just gave up.

Well, lets hope that TFT WE makes it possible to implant Midi files, or my map is doomed....Doomed beyond its wildest dreams.....

i use DietMP3 and it compresses my songs taht are about 3mb to 300kb and it sounds good enoguh for a map. And if u have .wav files i reccomend converting then into mp3 because mp3 is way smaller then wav. I got a 300kb wav file down to 30kb by converting it to mp3 and compressing it with dietmp3
