Grrr I Hate This

i have been trying to learn spell editing for the last month and have had little succses. im using war3spelled and winmpq,techmpq and mpqview. i have yet to get a single spell to work in-game. i followed the instuctions of several tut's compleatly and i still get the guys stupid face.my spells work in the editor but not when i go to play it. Im not sure but i think its because techmpq isnt insering the altered files into the map. so that why i got winmpq, but i have no idea how to use it to insert the edited files, the tut for it on this site just said it was easy enough and only told how to install it. could someone please help me its getting very frustrating and i know im doing somthing wrong but WHAT?! :bgrun:

Wait for tft, it has easy spell editing. That is, if you can wait a little over a week :foot:

Step One: Delete war3spelled.

Step Two: Get MPQ2k. (That's what I use and it works perfectly for me. I use the GUI just cause it's easier).

Step Three: Open up AbilityData.slk and any .txts your are going to change.

Ok, editing the .slk is easy as hell. Any field that isn't straight forward has a nifty little comment that tells you what it does! How can you go wrong when it TELLS you what the fields do?

So, find the spell you want to base your spell off of. Say you want to make...a spell that hurts all enemies around the caster. So you would find Tranquillity and copy the entire row! Goto the bottom of the hero's section and insert the copied row. Then just change the alias and uberalias to whatever code you're going to use. Change 'Keeper of the Grove - Tranquility' to whatever you want it to say. The rest is pretty much self explanitory. I mean, all the collums have comments that tell you what they do. Just hold your mouse over a box with a little red bit in the corner and the comment will appear.

Then goto (in this case) NightElfAbilityFunc.txt and NightElfAbilityStrings.txt and open those two up. Go through them both and find the tranquility spell and copy and past the 'code' for those at the bottom of the .txt. Now replace '[AEtq]' with the alias you put in your .slk.

Then just change the 'code' to whatever you want your spell to be called and such.

This is a really example as I don't feel like writing a tutorial for you. But this is the way it should be done. Those stupid spell editors are garbage...well see what the TFT one is like. But yeah. If this still doesn't work for you...then PM me.

Earth Fury, do you even take a second glance at your posts? It would greatly reduce your typos and such. Sorry, but multiple typos shows laziness or lack of intelligence. ;) I hope the latter isn't true.

EF really is stupid, last time I checked he hadn't slept for 4 days, no joke...
And he is allowed to spell in whichever way he wants as long as the message goes trough. And apearently, it does... His bad information stopped a while ago and now I'm happy about how he turned out.

lol. i lack none in inteliugence, i jsut am too lazy to even glance... i ussually wm watchinbg tv as i type btw. im an exelent mutitasker. i am able to type with the most eligence (im still bad at spelling)
