Hey as it;s summer vacation and im really bored, i was trying to get to the campaign maps that are used in RoC. However, i can't seem to find them and I would like either, A) a way to get to the maps so that i can edit them safely in the worldeditor, or B) a link to somewhere i can download the maps... This would be appreciated, thankyou |

Guest | Just use the program WinMPQ to open the main Warcraft 3 MPQ file (the thing that holds all the game information). Type in *.w3m in the program's filter and it should show all the maps inside. The campaign maps are called Human01.w3m, Human02.w3m, etc. Just drag and drop them out onto a folder somewhere and you'll be able to mess with them. If you want to be able to stuff edited maps back into the MPQ and thus back into the game (i.e. not just play them as individual maps), I don't know how that would work. I assume you could just copy your edited map back into the MPQ and it would work, but I'm not sure. Of course, you'd want to make a backup before doing such a thing, or at least of the files you're replacing (since backing up the entire MPQ may not be so easy, it's hundreds of megabytes large)... I don't have a link to WinMPQ, but I'm sure you can find it around here somewhere. It's a very popular program. |

I wonder... You could probably actually do the method Brittle suggested.. And then just leave the maps names the same.. Which is probably what most campaign editors are doing... They just open up an image extractor.. Pull out the main images.. Then they import their newer ones to reflect the changes... Then after that they just change around the missions included.. And have the tweaked and screwed with... Only thing that would suck would be the custom movies.. Ike the awesome one with thrall grom and the manneroth... :D But anyways.. On with the fun.. make back-ups like stated... And give it a try.. As long as you ahve back-ups.. What hurt can it do? |
