NEW PROJECT : The Great Patriotic War

For the last 4 months i have been planning working on a new project. and now its time i announce it.
the project is named " The Great Patriotic War" and it is a warcraft III total conversion.
i have organized a so called FAQ. if you have any questions post away.

"The Great Patriotic War" is a Conversion for Warcraft 3 being developed by myself "Blade"

I Have Written up a list of answers to various questions that may come up concerning the conversion and the website:

What is the Theme of "The Great Patriotic War" ? :

The Great Patriotic war is set in the years 1941-1945 during Germany's Invasion of the Soviet Union and the following events on the Eastern Front.

Why is it called "The Great Patriotic War" and not "the wwii conversion" or "Eastern Front" ? :

The Conversion will put an emphasis on the Soviet view of the war therefor a Soviet name has been chosen. "The Great Patriotic War" is the common Soviet name for the war as it required the full unity and show of patriotisim from the Soviet people.

Who will be the playable "Races" in the Conversion ? :

The Conversion will include the Soviet Union and Germany as playable armies. although Allies of Germany participated in the Eastern Front like Finland and Italy they will not be distinguished much from the Germans in the conversion.

Why Were only these two specific playable armies selected ? :

When i look back at my older projects all of them were doomed from the start as they were too big and enthusiastic for me to handle, this is what i am doing different with this project. only two playable armies have been selected so i can manage the balancing and art work for them by myself. the second reason why i chose the Eastern Front is because i am Russian born and therefor very interested in the Eastern Front and i am a WWII\Militery in General - Enthusiast :).

How will the Gameplay be like ? :

Im trying to sustain and keep the gameplay true to life while still achieving enjoyable arcade gameplay. the current plan is to force the player into using micromanaging to achieve victory, armored vehicles will not be very common or cheap. although armor is likely to destroy an infantry division in a frontal confrontation players will have the tools combined with micromanaging to out smart and achieve victory over enemy armor. infantry will be very common in the game and you wont see anyone trying to mass tiger tanks. right now there are five infantry types for each army to use, ranging from normal rifleman to anti-tank personnel, medics and snipers. basic use of aircraft will be defending against enemy bombers and sending out on bombing missions against the enemy yourself. although ground attack aircraft are also available they will stay in the category of support and will not be encourged to play as your main forces. this idealogy may change at anytime as testing phases will progress, worry not for all changes will be made only for the benefit of player enjoyment.

Wich game modes will be available ? :

Aside from normal melee games where alliances could vary the conversion will also come with a respectfull number of objective based multiplayer maps. note that being objective maps does not mean that Melee \ Build&Destroy gameplay will not be included, but it will be a mix of both to increase enjoyment and excitement and not bore the player with same endless melee matches. after the release of the conversion more maps will be released to keep player interest alive.

Will there be new Tilesets included ? :

Yes. new tilesets will be included although only a few as to what is needed to bring the historic envoirment to life. i will give a few of examples of tilesets that i have been pondering about : City Ruins, Eastern Europe( Winter \ Summer ... ),Western Europe,....these tilesets will include special features belonging to their envoirment like certain tree types that only grow there , mud , snow , roads and more..

What sort of music\voicing will be included if any ? :

Ive been experimenting quiet a while with game and film music alredy, looking for the perfect tracks to include in the conversion. the idea of actuall lyrical tracks and new-made custom music is nice but its still in question... .im pretty straight about getting voice acting as its a high factor in entertaining the player but if resources run low there will be no voice acting included. i hope i can pull it off tho.

What sort of graphical enchancments will we be seeing ? :

The Conversion will include new models,skins,animations,icons and a new GUI. when a certain unit will be fully completed it will be posted in the proper page for that unit for everyone to see. the showcase page will showcase concept art,screenshots,and other sorts of eye candy related to the conversion.

Im interested in helping with the production, who do i contact ? :

Currently i dont plan on making this a big team unless i really reach a milestone. i will keep the number of people working with me extremely small.there is an exception though - during the late stages of developement i will be seeking out a few good voice actors. if you think you can aid and have reasonable skill and experience to work on this project you can email me at - [email protected]

Sounds and looks cool! Never expected to run into another "Ole Hadash" (well, as far as that goes. Ex-Ole Hadash perhaps? Whatever...) from Russia around here... :D

I will make multiplayer maps for this Conversion/Mod.
I already had an idea popping up. I'd like to be a mapper plain and short. I'd also like to make use of the new Tileset/s that you're going to have (Or already have)...

Im not really looking for mappers. but maybe if your really skilled you could make some maps for the conversion. and even so you wont be mapping until atleast 6 months from now when most of the technical part is done.

I'm really skilled... (Shit that's really bragging).
The point I tried to state was that I can come up with fun maps for multiplayer using this mod (Infantery Slaugther, Tank Assault) ect... As well as senarios, of which most part is random for replayablility, and different sides can win, ect...

I'd also like to say that the basics of the maps can be laied down, and a "describing" terrain, which will be reworked later, can be done now, and 6 months in the making, plus another 6 months.
This way you will be sure you have enough maps to satisfy everyone.

Edit: I'd like to make maps that would bring forward the coversion. As well as if we are going to have a story (campaign?) built in I can do the triggers for those... I might know a terrain guy but I do not know if he is willing to work with me...

Edit 2: I'm also good at pointing out things you may not have been thinking about... Spotting Errors and coming up with new ideas and features. As this will be realistic we wont have any heros I guess... But more like you could have two different amunitions for a tank for example, that you can choose (or set) it to... But it can't be "changed" later if you don't "bring it in" to change the pipe/s, ect...
I know the Sovjets did this a lot, put on different turrents on different tank models... Reworked old ones, reused... Ect... You get my point.

Thats not exactly the kind of maps im looking too tho. i want reallistic strategic maps. there will be a campaign but il be working on it aswell. altho ive not much experience with the World Editor i was a starcraft map maker and pretty good triggerer\terrainer. send me your best maps to look at
the tilesets and doodads will be done later so working on maps now is useless

Well, good luck anyway. I really am looking forward to this project, though it seems kinda hard to convert fantasy medieval hero-based Warcraft III to World War II on the Eastern Front...

Can you describe more on gameplay? Is it like whoever has the better terrain under control wins, stuff like that.

Also do you know alot about Germany/Russian weapons/vechiles/Personel? 'Cause if not I could help ya with that stuff. And you should make the gameplay like WW2 where infantry types work together to be effective and tanks need infantry support. Just my two cents...
