Projectile / Particle Editing

I'm trying to get a normal projectile, like a mortar shell, or spear, to have the effects of being frosted. What I've done is extracted out a projectile model of a spear, and then extracted the model for the frost wyrm's breath. I copied the Wyrm's particle emitters, and pasted them in the model for the normal spell. (I added the textures, fixed up object ID #'s etc).

All works great, the unit now throws a frosted spear, however there is a problem.

The projectile leaves behind the frost effects, it is attached to the spear, the spear hits the unit, dissapears, but the frost effect remains where the unit was. It doesn't attach to the unit either.

I've tried tweaking all sorts of properties in the particle emitters, but I can't seem to get rid of this. Unless I remove all of the copied in frost particle emitters, the effect remains on the ground. How much of the effect remains on, of course, how many emitters I remove.

I thought that maybe adding the Frost Breath ability to the unit would help, but all that did was completely remove the spear from the model. The "after effect" follows the unit, but the projectile is just the frost portion, which sort of defeats the purpose.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried editing the visibility? If not then it's probably that.

What do you mean?

Keep in mind I know very little about model editing, is this something that is changed in the mdl file?

Yeah, can you attach the mdl file here? Then it's easier for me to help out.
