meh, i hate protected maps, when i see something that was interesting and i wanna see how it was done, or just look at what the creator could have done better... anoying not being able to

personally... if someone is gonna take the time to sift through the triggers to steal my map, or makes a different version, i don't really care... i mean i map cause i like to map, to create and problem-solve, not so i can see my map being played extensively on b-net with my name gleaming on it

W3M Map Utilities still works.

The main reason we protect our maps to prevent ppl from adding cheats and or making copies with the same filename. This crashes the game on b-net if you have multiple copies and will ruin a game for everyone.

There's more to it than just that, there is also the annoyance of having people simply take your map, throw in some stupid useless modifications, then call it their own and spread it.
(This has happened to me twice with Night of the Livind Dead spawning Resident Evil, and Hunters and Hunted spawning Evolution and Darwin's Island)
This not only splits the pool of people who enjoy playing that sort of map, but also turns away anyone who isn't impressed with the modified gameplay.

off the whole moral of protecting your map.. did anyone who ever made a map that took days (24 hours) to make not want their map protected? Besides Kaggz, protecters were not out then. SO. Any protectors and where can I get them?

Darwin's Island is not a rip of Hunters and Hunted it's different.

And I do believe I've seen NOLD out a lot more than Resident Evil.

You don´t care and it is OK, that´s your opinion and you´re free to think that way.
But probably other guys DO CARE about it, that´s why they use the protectors.

Darwins Island "borrowed" triggers from Hunters and Hunted, along with enough gameplay elements (such as fountains of evolution and randomly placed exp items). However, this map doesnt upset me that much, it's maps like EVOLUTION and Evolution Unleashed that directly copied EVERYTHING, then removed the hunters from the game (plus any mention of myself and wearespam) that make me really upset. It took an insane amount of time and effort to develop the triggers and balance that went into that map (including making a hero copy of each and every creep ONE FIELD AT A TIME) and to have that stolen by some random person who doesnt even give any credit to the creators is upsetting.

As for Resident Evil and Vietnam, it got to the point where people would say "OMG THIS IS A COPY OF RESIDENT EVIL" in just about every game, then proceed to teamkill/leave/call it a shitty map because "RE sucks". So realistically, YES, Resident Evil has damaged the reputation of Night of the Dead games.

If you really want to do something to make your map protected against most of the morons out there...

HAve two maps saved.. One saved in GUI format.. The other in Custom Text.. At the start of the game have a trigger test all of the hero values. HP's and MP's for instance.. If one of them seems to be out of place... Root a hidden text file that states that the map was ripped off and the real version can be found at.. And then do Defeat Condition.

Now.. That can be a little tedious... But.. For the true map makers out there.. They can look at the custom text and learn off of it.

Instead of bloxking the entire map and making good and honest map makers, who might need a little push on a single trigger, out in the freezing cold.
