Ability editor in TFT WE-bugged badly

I'm not sure if others have this problem, but it seems that certain combinations when trying to create an ability causes worldedit to cause an error and close down. After my first problem where I couldn't acess the abilities tab, I was only able to export my units and items. So, I imported those into an old map and started work on the abilities once again. However, this time around, everytime I saved my map I also export all the object data, hoping this would keep me safe. However, after getting another closing error, I tried to import the object data into the old map and access abilities and I get the same error, thus it would seem I would have to restart my abilities again. If anyone has a clue on what is going on, I'd appreciate it. TIA.

heh...at least I'm not the only one. As an update, I was finally able to import the data into my old map without an error. However, when I clicked on the ability tab, none of my custom abilities were there. I opened the data export in word and it still showed my abilities, but they aren't importing. I'm thinking I'll wait a bit more before I continue with my map. I'm getting tired of trying to redo my abilities only to have it screw up again.

Take all the .slk files out of your Units folder. That's what was crashing it for me when I tried to open the ability editor.

Don't have a units folder. I installed the game fresh. So...there aren't any .slk conflicts...

Ok, just an update. The error seems to occur when I tried to create an ability. Both times, the ability didn't seem to have anything special about it and it doesn't seem locked to any certain ability or way of creating it. Now, after this error occurs, I can reload the map, but when I click ability tab, get error, we closes. If I load a map and import the object data that was created before the first WE crash, then try to click ability tab, the WE gives error and closes. I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and tried both methods above and the WE stills gives an error and crashes. What doesn't make sense is why the heck the maps that were saved before the crash would still be causing problems after the first crash. Also, why the crash would still occur after the reinstall. The only thing I can figure out is that somehow the WE either backups your map in the case of a crash. So...hopefully this helps if anyone has looked at this. :) TIA.

Double check for the units folder or any other UMS folders. Just because you uninstalled and reinstalled war3 doesn't mean they're gone. The uninstaller won't delete those folders, you have to delete them manually. Just a note ;)

Also, if you guys jump on bnet and dl the latest patch, it might fix up some of these problems. I was having them too, and it helped.

Well, I didn't just unistall the game. I deleted the folder*keeping only my maps and saved games* and I have the current patch. I made sure to update before I started work on my map. This doesn't seem to be a common problem though...so, I guess I'm stuck to remaking my map and hoping someone figures out how to access the custom stuff created within the WE. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. If this error happens again, I may have to give up on my map for a bit. Not much fun making abilities only to have to start over again and again. *sigh*

I had exactly the same problems, so i uninstalled war3, then went into the folder and deleted EVERYTHING i didnt need, then installed RoC, updated it, then installed TFT, and it worked fine.

alright, I'll give it another shot. Did you even delete any maps you created?

Well, I did exactly what you said...still no luck. Here is my error.

worldedit.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. blah...blah...blah...

Anyways, the first time I got the error, here is what I did. I had created a blank ability based off of repair. Basically, it was a useless skill that only served to give the user a bit of information about the char. It did have an icon picture and was assigned to a unit. However, I had some problems with the tooltip not showing up correctly, so, I removed the ability from the unit and then deleted the ability, thinking I'd replace it with something else. I picked a different ability and did new custom ability and I named it the same name as the one I had deleted before. Once I clicked ok, it paused and then gave me the error. Now I can't access the ability tab for that map anymore without the error. Well, again, I hope this helps. It just seems there may be some issues with the new editor...so hopefully a patch is in order soon. Until then, maybe I'll work on my other idea...

Worldedit hates me literally.
I go test map an intensely custom text map, it saved fine it verified the script but right when its making the map it crashes and leaves me a folder full of the map files. Just what I need..
