I can not resize doodads manually because the x,y,z setting box is "grayed out" (they are there but I am not allowed to click on them). is there something i must do first?

A lot of the doodads do have the scaling options greyed out because they're set a certain way what with the animations and whatnot that go along with them. Bridges, gates, walls... I know what you're talking about. I assume sometime in the near future a map editor will come out so we can change these and make REAL city walls, instead of just raising the terrain up two. For the moment, though, I'm afraid you can't do it. Unless someone else knows something I don't, of course, which is always possible.

Try using the doodad graphic for a unit, you can then enlage and shrink without limit.

To do this, use almost any advanced editor and either a .mpq viewer or use what I use, the list file that is needed for the .mpq viewer.

You can link walls with one of the older advanced editors.
