Guest | This is actually my second skin. Ever since I picked up TFT I've been doing all this weird Blood Elf concepts. This one is for the Sylvanus Windrunner Model and I have another one for the golemstatue model. They're all going to be for this Blood Elf campaign I'm working on, called "From The Ashes.". I'm really interested in opinions, but keep in mind these are my first. -Monk Ki |

Guest | I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I've tried every tutorial to get them on the models and in the game... It might just not work with TFT. But if someone wants to copy the pics and put them on the models for me and send a pic that would be cool. |

you know what, it may be much easier than you think =) i got skins on the models in FT without any third party software. i used third party software to extract it and edit it, but to get it in the map, no problem. no problem if you want to replace the old models skin at least... im still trying to import extra models for extra skin types of same model, but the other method works perfect. go to import manager, import the skin you wanted to implement. now edit the path, and change it to the path the model would use as a skin. it forces that model to take it, so you cant have a normal golem and a blood elf golem, but in a campaign it may not matter... worked for me. i heard some others cant get it to work, but i swear, worked for me. but if you DO figure out how to use same models different skins, please e-mail me ([email protected]). I tried a lot of stuff. Got the mdx->mdl converter, changed the bitmaps the model calls, changed the model names, but it wont work. Read slowpokes tutorial on it and tried that. if you figure it out, please tell me what to change the model names to, what to change in the mdl, what path to import it to, and anything else i might be missing. thanks, but hope i helped. |

Figured it out, got right now a blood mage normally skinned, with my Void Mage sitting next to him. One model cant share the same skin, but doesnt mean you cant copy the MDX files over... (ive read on this before, but first time getting it to work.) heres a quick tutorial: 1.pick a unit model. extract its skin. work it out. 2.save it and convert it to blp format. 3.grab the mdx file of the main unit and the portrait. 4.convert to MDL file using YobGul's converter. Hard thing to get to work... (have to extract all dll's from war3.mpq and put em in same directory, dont use upgraded dll's in warcraft directory) 5.edit mdl. change name of model at the start. change the blp it normally calls to a path of "Textures\*.blp" where the * is the name of the blp 6. change the name of the portrait mdl to the same as the model name at the start of the normal mdl file, with "_Portrait". (i dont just mean filename, that too, but there is a string near the beginning of the actually mdl file of the name of the model) 7. change the path to the "Textures\*.blp", where it calls the skin in the portraits mdl file too. 8. check to make sure the filenames are the same except with "_Portrait", and are different names than anything ELSE in the mpq. 9.open world editor. import manager. import ur 3 files, BLP, and two mdx's. Right click, modify properties, and change the properties of each file. Edit the path of the blp to "Textures\*.blp" and the others to "Units\[Race]\[Unitname]\*.mdx" and "Units\[Race]\[Unitname]\*_Portrait.mdx" This may not be necessary but it keeps structure. ur own race name can work. i used Units\Voidy\Voidmage\Voidmage.mdx as a path, and it works. 10.using object editor, create a custom unit and make its path the imported mdx file, but not the portrait file. It will find the portrait if its in the same directory, no need to worry. If u pathed the skin right, it will find that accordingly. 11.Now if you want a skinned Witchdoctor hero, and a couple normal witchdoctors with the guy, its possible. No skin replacing. After importing the files in the map, if you close the WE, then reopen it and the map, it will show the skins and models IN the WE! it looks just like it would in the game. So dont worry if you see the green checked box instead of ur model, just reopen the whole editor, or even test play. if it doesnt work then, go through the pretty quick steps again until you find out what messed up. That Blood mage model is so cool im gonna have to create a couple of cool skins for him for my little Voidmage crew =) =) |
