What do you consider a good RPG? |

good storyline, in depth heros (i hate it when i just see mage or warrior) realistic terrain rather than an entirely flat map with trees and piles of rocks, a decent amount of cines and other than that just use ur better judgement. |

cool cheers i was thinking of making a RPG cause my footie war is getting a bit boring, just wanted to know what makes a good one and what pleases ppl, wat bout length how long do you think is apropreate |

dont drone it out ya know. if its multiplayer than about 2 hours is very immersive yet too long. on the other hand if its single player make it a LONG one. just be sure to keep it fresh. no1 likes running back in forth thru the same spots killin creeps. the longer it is the more quest there should be and the more detailed each quest should be. keep the player glued to their monitor. what i usually do is actually go out in a very 'naturey' place with a notebook and jot down any ideas that pop into my head by viewing my surroundings. nothings more realistic looking than sumthing that imitates the real thing. |

Yea i guess that is the main problem with online RPG's you cant have them that long and you cant have cinis, and its hard to develop a good plot for online games that only last 2 hours, I wasnt really thinking about doing a single player I like the idea of sharing my map, seems stupid to have my random RPG sitting on some site for the odd random to DL |

Yeah I wants some good online rpgs im working on one now. But for online one i dont think there should even have cinematics, it only cause an annoyance when u have to wait. And I hate open RPGs I think is so damn stupid is like was the point of a map whos aim is to have no aim at all. And I dont like map that give players too much option itll cause players to separate. Here is an image of the terrain im working out. Wat do you guys think, I think it looks pretty good. ^_^ |

VERY VERY cool i have no terraining skills and its amazing to see all the good terrian that you people can come out with, any lil hints to terraining, i guess it isnt something you can just learn, thats the main thing that is holding me back from making a RPG because terrain is one of the most important things, I am making a fottie war and i just got my mate to make my terrain :ggani: |

very schway!:D looks damn good if you ask me. if you put that much detail into a river id love to see the rest of the map! oh and ham when theres a will theres a way. remember that |

My first World of Warcraft maps aim was to have no aim. And people really likes that. My new World of WarCraft map (will be called yoda_24's World of WarCraft will have more of an aim to it (The Horde vs. The Alliance) but it still has people running all over the world killing creeps (cause its based on World of WarCraft, a MMORPG) Though the creeps get harder every 10 minutes so you dont fight super hard creeps in the begining and you dont fight super easy creeps at the end. (I might change the time amount for them to get harder if it is to easy or to hard in some areas.) Plus there will be quests that will have a very loose storyline. And I'm almost done with it too. |

its kinda wierd, cause war3 has features that make it easy to make an RPG, no good ones are coming out (comparing this to SC days)... makes sense... i guess i'll start making a multiplayer one... gonna take a while if i do though |

I've been working on my RPG since the days of the map contest, though I put in on hold because of TFT. Im currently upgrading my Predator map for TFT. After that I'll continue with the rpg. It's a multiplayer map with cinemas (i will do a skip for most of them) and a storyline. It has 6 or 7 players (i forgot). I guess it can be a single player aswell, since unused units will become shared units for playing players. The thing thats kinda worrying me is that my main drive for this map is multiple endings, like Chrono Trigger. The problem is most people on Bnet don't like cinemas, so won't care about the endings. I gotta find a way to make the gameplay good. I'm thinking about having equipping items and such, but I'm leaving gameplay for later. I'm still working on the story/cinemas, and since its multiple endings, it's taking longer than expected. Plus with TFT, I'll get tempted to try other stuff. So I'll probably be working on it for a few more months. I hope it doesnt become a year long project. |

RPGs are the type of map i like to play the most on battlenet, so I've always been on the lookout for new ones that are any good. Here's a list of decent rpgs: Kaggz Princess' Prophecy Dragonland(s?) RPG Heroes of Valerya um thinking...i know there are other decent ones but those come to mind the strongest. It's been a while without internet (i have to go to the public library emote_confused ) so i haven't played on battlenet in a long time. I have a mostly complete rpgish map that i stopped because it was high percentage cinematics and the wait bug on battlenet sucks ***. I'll finish it one of these days and post it up and have three people dl it yay! if you find any other good rpg maps, do post about them. |
