Hi, i am a moderator in a map discussion forum (not on this site). Several map-makers regularly post release announcements for their newest maps there. The problem is that there was an extremelly popular (among our small community) map called The 3 Corridors TE. The 3 corridors is a format of game, there are several mods, one of which called TE, which is the really popular one. That map was for classic and won't run in TFT. Several map-makers are developing new versions of The 3 Corridors for TFT, but some of them are calling their versions TE also, to try to take advantage of the popularity of the old map. It has come to a point in which there are several different maps by different map-makers named EXACTLY the same, TE, just trying to take advantage of the real TE's fame. As a moderator I have imposed a new rule: No maps shall be called TE unless the modder who made the first TE in the first place tell's me he's given the name to someone else to continue his work. I have given them some days to rename their maps and then i will delete their threads if they don't comply. One modder already renamed his map, but another one is giving me a lot of arguments and shit. I could ask this same question on my own forum, but that's forum with 200 players and 5 or 6 map-makers and i want the opinion of the map-making community, the ppl who actually put their time and work so that the rest of ppl can play for free. Please let me know what you think. Thank you very much for your attention, W |

Well, for the first part.. They shouldn't really be screwing with the map anyways.. Unless it is an open source map and the original map-maker gave the right to work on it.. So basically, if you see some copies and you know it is someone copying.. And the original map-maker hasn't opened the source to it yet.. I'd delete all posts. They should definetly give original credit to the creator unless the version they create sucks too much ***.. In which case they should stop making maps because they are ruining the good ones isnetad of makingbrand new ones. |

playamarz, it's not that they don't give credit, the problem is that they are stealing the name so ppl will think their crappy maps are designed by the same person that designed the popular TE map. Since there are several mods, this is their lame trick to ensure that ppl will play their mod convinced it is the continuation of the original mod. Obviously they have no faith in their own map-making skills, but that's another subject. I'm not gonna tell them to stop making maps, i'm just keeping their name-stealing bullshit out of the forum i moderate. We are actually hosting a tournament of TE right now in our forum, so you can see it is very popular. Also, many modders stealing the same name means that there are several maps with the EXACT same name. Actually one of the name-stealers has named EVERY SINGLE MAP i've seen of him after someone else's map to try to steal their popularity with his crappy creations. W |

I think I played that map once or twice.. I'm not saying it's a crappy map or anything.. I'm just saying that they shouldn't be copying the map at all.. Yeah.. I can see changing the name.. But that would be like me going.. Well I don't like DOTA's Flamelord.. I'm going to take him out and put a flame shooting sheep that slowly dies because he's technically on fire but I don't wanna model the fire so I just make it up.. And then call it.. Marz Defense of the Sheeplords. Not changing hardly anythign around but that one unit... People would see the new map and be like allright.. Sit through the download then be like.. Wow.. It's basically dota.. Then they get in game.. Ww.. I just dl'd for nothing.. That sucks. |

I could explain to you the virtues of the map, but i don't really care who likes or dislikes the map. We can talk about that in another thread, but here i want the focus to be on the map-makers attitude. W |

Your right playamarz. My download folder right now is DOTA 1.1 DOTA 1.2 DOTA 1.3 and ect Then it goes into TFT DOTA .20 TFT DOTA .21 TFT DOTA .23 and almost every new map theres a entirely different loading screen in addition to about a spell change... not even a unit change a spell change.. like damage reduced by 1 and the entire mapmaker's name have been removed replaced with some weird retarded name composed of nothing but random symbols to show a certain letter of the alphabet thats apperntly not from this world. |
