New Battle System for my RPG works!

Okay, before I start, I would like to say THANKS TO THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF ENTRIES FOR THE SUMMONS AND COMBOS. I am going to tell who the winner is and their name will be in the credits.

COMBO: Pirogen's Flaming Fist
JPJJTP - Bloodlust casted at the last punch

SUMMON: playamarz's Call of the Wild (-CW)
8 animals erupting and stampeding over the enemy. Stunning effects and terrain erosions included.

Now, the good news now is that my battle system works perfectly (excluding bosses and special abilities). It's a 1v1 combat system, and random enemies.



I'm only showing this screenshot so it shows that I've done somethin'. It also sounds hella good with Final Fantasy music. There will be a dialog at your turn:

Attack for x seconds
Heal x hitpoints
Combo (x seconds)
Commands help

The combo system is changed also. Click the combo part, and you have x seconds (3 at start) to type in your combo. If you fail to do so, you skip a turn.

So, onward to suggestions, opinions, smart remarks, comments.

BTW: I would prefer some more summons and combos. I will also put your name in the credits.

yah , there were some maps in starcraft that were similar battle style, but war3 can re-enforce em more.. the combo idea is cool

Sounds good. You really have to remove that cattail by the way, it looks stupid on the ice. Its meant to be in water =)

Can you release a small 1 battle demo (protected) so we can playtest it?

i forgot the letter for punch i think its p
so combo:
ppppp
thunder punch
the unit attacks really really fast and each time it hit lightning strikes the emeny

If it's all punches, it should have a lot of letters, 'cause a combo like that will be hella easy. It's more like "PPPPPPPPPP".

UPDATE: The combos will now be even harder to do!

Let's say the "Brew Stew" combo is "JP", I'm adding an extra RANDOM string to it: (K)nuckles, (F)ist, (S)tab. Combos will always end with either K, F, or S and they are random. That prevents the usage of copy-n-pasting. No, I haven't placed these features yet.

So now, it's J/T/P + K or F or S. It won't be hard to incorperate.

(Oh god, imagine JTPTJPTTPTJPK)

Super Thrust - ttP
what the name implies
jtjttpp -flying tackle
kill the unit and pause its corpse then send it to the enemy and revive it
tjtjjpp shadow speed punch
does one fast punch with somesort of cool special effect on his hand
ppjjpjpt rolling thunder
shoots a beam of lightning
jtpjpptp - ice beam
the unit plays it channel animation if it has one roa bit then shoots out a frost bolt

so let me get this straight ur whole battle systems just envolves u typing stuff in? I mean is stuff u type in and u have to remember or is there like letter that flashes to the screen that u copy or somthing? :...:

first of all, i really like the idea. how's the encounter work? is it random, or do u see enemies, like xenosaga, or chrono trig?

i've got a suggestion bout the combos. typing is really annoying, at least for me, so is it possible to set up your system on an item base? the items act as commands, so you call one wk punch, hrd kick, and so forth. it'll work the same way except you click instead of type.

if you need to carry items, then set up a storage, and set it up so that you can toggle between the items and the commands. so for example, right now your unit has hrd punch, weak kick, etc. in his item boxes. you hit the down arrow. you create a trig that removes all of those and assigns it to an item array. you have a separate unit which acts as storage. right now he has 5 healing potions, and 5 mana potions. you take those and put them on your unit, then you take the punches and kicks, which u stored in an item var, and give those to ur storage unit.

another suggestion is maybe u could do it keyboard based. you have the keyboard event now, so just lock your camera to the current unit, and assign your punches and kicks to the arrows. prob with this is you can only have four, whereas if you use items or keyboard you can have however many u need.

it's sounding like a nice campaign. or is it just map? either way, i'm looking forward to it.
