iv been playing aos alot and been thinking a making a AOS style map( a map like it but with my own flings) and i need ur guyes help on ideas! like should it be a aos Quadwar,custom spells,custom items,original heros,new heros. shit like that

I don't play AoS, but I'm a DotA junkie. What I liked most about that map was the custom spells/items/original heroes.

It didn't feel like you were playing as a demon hunter when you chose the mageslayer(example).

I'm about halfway through making mine now, btw =)
New TFT models are great and I love the new editor. Barely have to touch the .mpq files at all.

to tell you the truth, to really make ur aos kickass, you need something totally new. I was impressed by the new spells, until i learned how to make custom spells. now everyone tries to impress ppl with them. maps have become more and more messy. one of my ideas, is to use the terrain alot more, have hidden passageways that are invisible until you enter them (like a tunnel hidden under some brush) and im not talking about like in the blizz campaign were it surrounds everything with runes. I have more ideas, but im using them myself, so i wont tell you them.

if u saw my post back a day ago or something about RotA, i tried focusing mainly on terrain and new ideas never-before-seen or done. i cant give u my ideas but if i think of some later ill edit this post and be glad to tell.

You gotta do something new. I've also got a lot of ideas. Some I've already implemented, some I haven't started on yet. Like you, I'm not telling till I release it(hopefully in a couple weeks).


Still don't have a working title, though ^^

Umm, dont make it exactly like AOS only with different spells\units\heroes. Change it some. Not sure exactly what, but something different. Like, give the computers a big base, but allow the players to build their own smaller bases. Or part of the way through the game let them select another hero, because the game gets boring after your hero is all the way leveled up and has all the abilities he can get. I dont know, but change the basic formula some.

FROSTBITE: i was thinking bout making passage ways like trees to a hidden shop surronded by monster that only firestrike and other spells can have acess to....

and for the comp base i was thinking bout have computer be human allaince base and have players choose to be there race so they can protect there main base like u can choose orc/elfs/undead/human units but u couldnt control them cause that would be a little ****ed up... but i mean u could build ur own shamens and shit like dat. and i would like to see some of ur guyes ideas for terrain cuase am not really a good terrain editor myself... if anyone would like to help me on the map just be terrain editor id be glad to share the map with u:)

Well.. I olike it.. But it looks too cuttered to me man... Looks like there is way too much going on in that map.

Now me.. I'm throwing in new base concepts.. Instead of the typical "cornered" bases. I'm also throwing in all new units never really used before and ideas and spells resulting from them.

I believe that yeah, having cool terrain and stuff is now awesome.. People still love the abilities and how you use them.. If you make a visual stunning map to walk around in.. but not fun gameplay wise.. They will just walk around it and be like bleh.. Then leave... If you build a fun gameplay map on a visually disgusting map.. They will play it still because it's fun.. But make fun of the land all the time.

It's really personal choice.. But.. Make it something off the wall and different.. Nothing like anything else.

I dont know if you have ever played Between Worlds, but that had a really cool system with dueling, you would challenge the other team to a duel to earn more gold etc that was really cool

Also they had a hero called a manager, the manager didnt have a model but he cud cast spells and decide wat troops are produced etc, I think it would be cool to take this one step further and allow the manager to be able to control all the troops, so you cud have back up coming to a certain area etc it wud improve team work and its orignal!

Also what I have noticed is that people like it now with heros that have lots of abilities and can go past lv 10 I guess casue its new but it kinda adds more life to the game cause in dota you get to lv 10 and whoa thats it really, but say if you cud go to lv 20 it keeps the game interesting for twice as long

ya, different terrain than the usual, like what playamarz said... make ur maps different than others of the same type so that it stands out above them

this is actually from my own map but its been ****ed up by patch 1.10 so offer this suggestion to ya

sounds like pointless eye candy but trust me a tauren chief with a glowing (barkskin if ur wondering)weapon looks ultra cool
also if u go to campaigncreations.org and go to the freebies they have a crapload of models that are open source, and pretty small.
many of these are great for eye candy also :)
