Well after many attempts of trial and error im still having trouble implanting my own models into war3. I have followed the tutorial to the exact letter and well still no luck. One problem might be that my .mdx has came out corrupted twice at least. It did not have any reference to units/orc/WitchDoctor.blp. The third time it did and I edited like it said to. I still dont know if that one was corrupted or not at least it wasnt as corrupt as the other. I guess it might be the program im using to extract the archive. Ive tried using just about every program I can find but many give me annoying errors. In the tutorial it says to use MPQ viewer. I have installed exactly like the install.txt says to but it still refuses to work. I open the w3 list file and open the archive. I then see something like[listfile]. Yet I see no files in the archive. I try to use the filter and still I dont see any files. Anyone know what the problem may be? I use the version in your download section was that made for the beta? I have even tried using different version of the storm.dll the one with war3 and the one included in all kinds of programs. Im also having trouble implanting it into a map. Everytime i load the editor it says cannont find units/orc/Witchdoctor/witchdoctop.mdl. I have once again tried using different programs to add files to it even trying the method on the tutorial page but once again i get errors or it will say done and then i load the map and it wont work. It seems all the problems im having is with the .mpq. I have tried using mpq viewer,WinMPQ, and MPQ2k. Often I get an error in staredit for some reason. Anyone got any suggestions? Help would be appreciated. Also a question do the .blp and .mdx do they need to be in a folder called units/orc/WitchDoctor? I have stuck them in all kinds of folders in all kinds of directorys and of course in the same directory as mpq2k. Also is any of this case sensitive? Ive tried all kinds of variations with capital and lowercase letters. Please help me before i shoot myself. :)

It seems there's a trick to viewing war3.mpq in MPQ Viewer that is left out of all tutorials and instruction files.

Do this:

- Open MPQ Viewer
- Open Archive File... war3.mpq
- Select (listfile) and Save it as war3list.txt
- Open Data File... war3list.txt

It's a simple but not entirely obvious procedure. The problem stems from the fact that W3MlistFile.txt (which Cookie says to use as your Data File in the tutorial) is for map files, not the war3.mpq file. This is about the fifth person I've seen with this same problem in the past two days. I think this (or one of the other threads on the same topic) should be stickied or someone should fix Cookie's tut.

Ok here is the problem when using mpq2k to add files it says archive does not exist attempting to add non existant file to archive yet it is in the exact directory with mpq2k. any tips?

You have to use the viewer to extract the .mdx and the .blp use the post above to get it to work the tutorial is unclear on extracting the files.
