I never thought I'd have to ask such a stupid question

I'm making a melee map, and I was about to place my gold mines when I noticed that the editor lets me place town halls as close to gold mines as i want.
This leads into trouble for me, because I usually place town halls at my expansion points just to see how far away I need to put the gold mine.
Can someone explain to me how far a main building has to be away from the gold mine?

Pick a start location and start with it over the gold mine, slowly move it away and when the town hall appears in the middle is the distance you can build in game
