How many of you would play this?

We all know about the evolution maps..

How about one that starts off (meaning going along with the evolutionary theory) after the dinosaurs have died?

You pick a type of animal, maybe something like..
Phylum>Subphylum>Class
Chordata>Vertebrata>Mammalia (Mammalian types)
Chordata>Vertebrata>Reptilia (Reptile-types)Chordata>Vertebrata>Amphibia (Amphibious types)
Chordata>Vertebrata>Aves (Flying types)
Anthropoda>Chelicerata>Arachnida (Spider-types)

You choose one and go with it. You go through different levels based on what you do and your environmental niche.. If you go around eating everyONE, your species will probably start heading torwards the carnivorous path. (Ferrets, for example, if you are a low-level mammal) If you eat the trees and bushes around you, your niche will lead you into more vegetarian species.. like a.. Hippo. (Keep in mind hippos could rip a human in half, so its still balanced.) If you are eating both a fairly equal amount, and lets say your a mammal, you might evolve into a hominid. Perhaps even a Cro-Magnon. You'll be able to build primitive structures and weapons.

I'll have to take a few... diversions from what is suppposedly real however.
I doubt I'll be remodeling the thunder lizard to look like a hippo, for example..

There'll be other factors, such as who you are 'with'.

A mating system.. to keep it PG, all that happens is a dialog. A yes will create an egg, if it is appropriate. For hominids and stuff it'll wait like 5 minutes and create another 'baby' unit at the position of one of the two parties involved.. (there is no 'male' and 'female' per se..) Eggs will be given to one of the parties involved, and when the owning party dies they will be reincarnated as that egg, which will hatch after 5 minutes of laying on the ground, creating a baby unit.

People with eggs or a baby cannot mate.

Players will only become new units by dying. No spontaneous creation of a new unit.. However, the longer you live as a unit, the farther you will be up on the ladder when you are reincarnated. If you just kill yourself after being hatched, chances are you'll just be the same guy.

To lose, your creature has to die when there is no suitable next-body.. meaning no baby unit or egg.

--

Balance issues probably will arise due to neaderthals and cro-magnons being able to build.. However, to counter this, the human types will be physically weak (just like real life.) A human with no weapon going against a bear isn't pretty.

Vegetarians won't have the speed and agility of a predator, but they are generally high hp creatures. There are exceptions to this. Things like mice, moles, and the like will have invisibility... and be super-fast.

Soo.. would ya play it?

I would play the fudge out of this game.

I had a similiar idea, too. But you played as one of several animal groups. You evolved your units into different kinds of animals and such. For example, the primates might start out as monkeys, but through evolution you can develop gorillas (ferocious warriors) neanderthals (intelligent hunters) or even sapiens (intelligent crafters).

Of course, because humans are the predominant species of this world, thereby not giving other species the room to grow into intellectual powerhouses, all selections would have a human-type unit that begins to open new gateways to new technologies.

I think it'd be pretty cool. Your idea. Oh, and my idea too :mtk:

Another feature:

Where you live affects what unit you are. You won't be seeing brazilian wandering spiders in the arctic.

Raptor--
i'm actually working on something very similar right now

the maps pretty good from what i tried, but i didn't like to have to read 6 pages of information to know whats going on

and i don't understand how the one hint about joop or something had anything to do with the map, it poped up a lot and it seemed very useless and anoying

This map doesn't exist yet... I assume your talking about Norbo's War.

All you really had to read to know anything was Economy... but meh, that's for another thread. And "joop" is just inane crap that comes up 2/25 times.

*Edit* if you vote, I would like ya to post why you voted that.. I'm particularly interested in hearing what the person who voted other has to say.

Yes, seems very interesting. I was writing a game(for forum use...) like this a while ago, but gave up on it because I had my hands full with writing a story.

Good luck. I doubt it'll be easy.

Guess who voted other....
Reason: I don´t know shit about WC3 on Battle.net, I don´t know those Evo maps, and I won´t be able to enjoy it singl. player, maybe in LAN but I personally don´t like WC3 with more than 1 player, don´t ask (okok, the reason is that I just suck at this game leave me alone :ggani:).

Heh. I see...

And Electricall, I'm used to hard projects. Norbo's War is still being worked on.. after 6 months.

That mating system is a bad thing...keep it pvp or allied, don't mix it up...Plus, you always leave one guy out of getting a baby, and this kinda screws them if they need a baby to revive...Why not have the game end the same way it does in the current evolution maps? When someone evolves far enough they block all revives from taking place and it's elimination mode?

Well there's also neutral creatures of the same species (3 per player of the same species) wandering around. You could just mate with them.. heh.
And not only that, why would I want to be just like all the other maps?

*edit*

Here's a revision.. Considering the fact that two players having the same species is so remote.. you'll only be able to mate with neutrals. Therefore, you always get the egg/baby.

Higher evolved building species will be able to have *ahem* breeding shacks or something.. since a bear can maul a human to pieces, one shot one death, they'll need lotsa babies to survive.

Er... what does that mean?

Anyway, I've decided to start work on this today. Almost got the class selection dialogs working.
