Making a hero arena with a new twist and some cool new features

I am going to make a hero arena

I just need opinions from people, simple ones

here goes

1) Tomes or no Tomes? take into consideration everything if you can about what tomes can do to a game they do have potential to support balance IMO somehow

2) environment, if you like eye candy around you, state if you care or if it is part of your fun factor. And if so what types of tilesets? like outlandish etc.

3) custom spells, state if you like or dislike this idea. I personally do and I 90% most likely will customize spells wouldn't hurt

4) special items that drops from like creeps around the arena etc. with detailed descriptions and sense that the item really means something. will this up your fun factor? (knowing that if you kill that owlbear over there it might drop its rare loot called "tusk of eilerea") yes or no?

I cant think of much more right now so tell me of any other comments you have also if you have any extra ideas tell me them plz. I wanna make this hero arena as unique as possible



P.S - My big idea for the hero arena, I hope pays off and works with the flow of the arena

Well here's my opinions.

1)Yes put in Tomes but not like +5 or anything. Make them +1 and +2 and quite expensive. If you can mass skill points then it's not fun.
2)Whatever, as long as it matches. That means no lava in a winter tileset. Make the creeps match with the tileset also.
3)Custom Spells is a must. Otherwise its just any old hero arena.
4)Yes make the items go with what you killed. Don't let a centaur drop an Demonic Figurine. Why would it have it anyway?

3)Yes, this is the area that most arenas lack in! You can never have too many custom spells! (well, you can have too many, but you'd hafta have a whole lot)

4)Yea, that sounds like a good idea

1: Tomes are a great thing to have. Make them like 3X the Price of Killing a Really Hard Creep. Maybe for a +2 Tome.

2: Enviorment is Cool. Have it with a theme, Or exact Opposites. ( One side ice, the other lava, or something )

3: Custom Skills Is As someone else said makes it different from any ol' hero arena. Add new skills and stuff like that. That makes it all the better. ( Make sure to Balance. Balance, Balance, BALANCE! )

4: Thats a great Idea. Also you should make the item's +'s go along with what it is. ( Such as a shield gives you armor, Not attack bonus or Cold Damage )

5: Balance, Balance, Balance.

1) personally, I hate the idea of tomes. It makes the game really messed up and godly at the end of the game. HOWEVER! I would want something similar to the Orc Campaign for TFT. Make an Ability upgrading spell, so at least they ahve to sacrifice something, and then make the level cap 100. So then, if they ahve been contributing, and creeping, it will pay off. Rather than cheesing. :D

2) When you think of hero arena, you dont think of EYE CANDY. So, in that case....Id want to see a hero arena, with some tought put into it. A little pazzaz. A little in depth terrian and doodad placement. Good idea here.

3) Custom spells are one thing, But custom spells that no one else could think of in a million years is another. Just taking normal spells, and renaming them isnt what makes the spell good. But what id like to see is somethign totally orignal. Something that no one in a million years could think of.

4) Custom items would be fun...Custom icons even funner. You can do a lot with this idea. Items that do totally messed up things to your character, like attach sound to them (that moves with them) and stuff would be fun. Like you could pick of a boom-box, and have a str upgrade, and some jammin tunes in the area that your hero is in! Cooooooool.

1. Tomes arent really neccesary....just make a hero maximum lvl fairly high, IMO, tomes kind of ruins the game, because well...if someone gets lucky and kill 3-4 hero at the beggining....then the game is kinda set, that hero will mass tomes...and will become uber, then the cycle continues...gets more uber...and everyone leaves....and...a tome that is too expensive....no1 will buy it, buying items to boost stats are better.

2. i dont mind....whatever, i dont really care about the enviroment (unless some of the hero can "camouflage" in the enviroment...and that is quite annoying)

3. custom spells are the MAIN thing....

4. ppl will kinda go camping the creeps......

and there wont be much creep camping

1) you got the other team on ur arse

2) the same creep dont always spawn and may never spawn again

custom spells are a must(and they prevent noob map makes from editing your map and stealing credit lol)
most arenas lack custom spells which make them suck and also for your heros dont make hundreds with no thought in them some of the gladitor 1s are like that and suck

1) no, don't put tomes. rather make items that you need to hold to get bonuses.

2)yes eye candy is one of the most important things in any map, if it looks good people will play it (even tho they may not realize this)

3)yes but if you are going to make custom spells don't just change damage/length of pre existing spells... make completley new spells via triggers.

4) don't make special item drops because theres always the one hero kills the creep and the other hero gets it scenario.

Other) dont make too many heroes 20 in all should be more thn enough. personally i think 14 should just about do it. and add some element that has not been done before, rather then having heroes constantly kill each other over and over again.

About 1), if you do put in tomes, the constants editor makes balancing them very easy. For example in my map I have +1 tomes that can be bought, but I edited the armor bonus from agility tomes to 0. So Str gives hp, agil gives attack rate, and int gives mana, and since they're all expensive it balances it. No damage+armor+attackrate bonuses for agil heros.

maybe u should add like hidden bosses that ativate when u step on a platform and the whole aena has to kill em for like 10000gold
