cpu using ablities

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I ask a noob question. My friend and I are making a map similiar to warchasers and we can't figure out how to get the cpu's heros to use their abilites. At one point you fight an archmage and he just stands there and throws his fire balls but he doesn't blizzard or summon elementals. Do you have to set up a trigger for this or is there a simple option that I am missing.

I checked the box in the map properties for units to use custom ablities but they still do not.

Please let me know what I am missing or what I need to do.

Thanks,

OxiDe

Generally they do. On the other hand, sometimes the computer is useless.
If you have TFT then im pretty sure you can use the AI editor to change this.
If that doesn't work, I could show you a trigger, but its kind of complicated so i would try the other way first.
Also, dont take offence cause ive done it before, but did you check the unit had enough mana. Im just saying, its easy enough to not notice

Yeah I made sure they had enough mana I realized that could be a problem when I was first playing with it. I noticed that I inserted another hero on the custom orc campaign that comes with TFT.

I put a blood mage in there and when I sent a small army at him he started using flame strike. The archmage on that map also used blizzard. I"m not sure if the cpu is stupid and they don't use ablities often or if there is something in the AI you have to adjust.

Its just a little let down because its easy to kill a hero that doesn't use his ablities. I would think you could get this to work without using a trigger but perhaps I'm wrong. I'll keep playing with it let me know if you guys find out anything more.

Thanks,

Oxide

strange, they only use the abilities that are based on one of their real abilities... looks like I have to learn how to use the AI Editor :bgrun:

Actually I had a problem like this. I fixed it by going checking the box that said fix player settings. It was in one of the player preference menus. Don't really know if this will fix you're problem or not.

even more strange, I played my map and the enemy actually used my custom fire fairy und the summoned units used all there moves !!! ecxept one thing, the enemy just doesn´t want to use her ultimate starfall based skill. Could it be because a friendly hero has an ability thats also based on starfall ???

was the enemy a hero? Did you change anything in the AI settings or player properties? Let me know.

Hmm I didn´t change anything, the hero is based on Dark Ranger Sylvanas but she won´t use her starfall based attack ... I have Custom Abilities and Fixed Player Settings enabled, but this didn´t change anything for the starfall based skill, I checked this skill a hundred times in the object editor, I even use the enemy hero as one of mine for testing purpose and the spell works gr8... maybe this needs a lil AI editing... who knows...
