I've noticed that people have lost hope on making new Tower Defense maps. It's probably because they all suck and out of the two remoteley good ones, one has been ripped off so much playing it just pisses you off and the other's creator has dissapeared. So i have looked at all that made Tower Defense maps bad (gliches, difficulty, repetetiveness, bland storylines, LAG) and developed a Tower Defense map of my own that will hopefully avoid many of these nuisances. I call it Frozen Dreams TD, it's done in the style of wintermaul (each teammate having a slightly different job to do) and hopefully avoids all the stuff i mentioned above. THIS MAP WILL BE COMPLETELEY MADE BY ME, I WILL NOT "BORROW" TRIGGERS FROM WINTERMAUL. NOR WILL I JUST CHANGE THE TILESET AND CALL IT MY OWN. so far i've done: {100%}-{Terrain} {100%}-{Storyline} (yes, there will be one, it's quite comical if i can say so myself) {070%}-{Race Concept} {030%}-{Towers} {000%}-{Enemies} {000%}-{Cinematics} {000%}-{Debugging} If you have any ideas or other things that piss you off about TDs please post here. btw, im leaving for vacation on tuesday, ill try to have a beta out by then... if i cram all of tomorow i should be able to finish an alpha version, get some testers and fix the gliches that make it unplayable. Then i can leave it untill i come back and fix various balance bugs then. |

I would suggest a variety of towers, making each one unique and having it's own advantage. I hate TDs where you have the option to build 3 different towers. I say lots of towers! |

I hate TDs with "Basic" tower builders who can build normal types of towers, too many newbs only build those and screw up the game. |

Blade: It's not structured like that. There is a set of "basic" towers that all builders can build but each builder has his or her own advanced towers. You select out of three builders if you choose to be assault or defense and two if you are selected to be the overlord (the "gray" of Frozen Dreams). Some advanced towers can be built by many builders (like an ice sculptors tower may be build by an elementalist) Druid: There will be lots of towers (one i'm most proud of being the air fortress... play the game and see) but they will not function that way. I'm sick of one race being able to continuosly own units while the other race can only slow them down. However most towers will have special quirks that make it interesting. -edit 1- Tiki: I won't be including unit skins since this is a multiplayer map and i'm sure people won't want to wait eons to download it... the biggest imported file right now is a custom pathing map for the Air Fortress and i doubt it will get any higher than that. I thought about shaking up the terrain too but for balance issues i believed that a symmetrical terrain would be better. Pshh... typo, there are only 8 races, not 9. |

shake up the terrain a little, people like variety, no variety makes TD's suck (noun omitted) and make sure there are some really cool towers stray away from the warcraft style make starcraft-like textured ones, i played one with a flower and it was 3/4's decent their terrain needed a little work (if anyone is looking for that map wheather because they like flowers or whatever it was on my friend's computer and his hard drive crashed) flare up the unit's skins, too! I'm sure you'll do a good job. and that's my 2 cents |

btw, your main builder won't be able to go into other player's areas (except for Defense players where two players work together in middle). Will this piss alot of people off? you will get a helper about 1/3 of the game through that can build "support towers" that don't do much damage... he will be able to go into other people's areas. |

While I agree custom models/skins would be cool, I know that many are not very good in this field. The main concern I would have is boredom. Make sure everyone gets some units, even if they only get a couple, it just makes it better then just giving the last person a bit of extra gold. Good luck, though. Oh, and make sure you protect your map or else you may have 50 copies of it on b.net. :) |

basicaly what i hate about td is that i cant build all the towers to get the variaty that i need also when i am on a lower lvl it sucks because i get no kills i find this boring also u shouldnt have builders that cant go into other ppls areas you should do something like zoator when if u dont like it u say destroy they should get money from it though and thats my 3 cents lol:D il help the beta testing im on both east and west |

Dont make it so builders cant go into other peoples regions. Make either a dialoug system or a text system where eg a player types "bugger off p1" it orders all towers belonging to p1 to order them to sell themselves. |

The layout of the TD looks great to me. I'm tired of the same old, same old. Hopefully yours will revolutionize TD's; well at least for another month or so. :D |

toochaos: you will only be able to build certain towers when you have completed other towers... there will be no "town hall" like setting but i dont believe in the "get lots of money, sell all your towers the build UBERTOWER" theory either, too many noobs "save" for an ultimate tower. and pls delete your double post (edit - delete this post) zotax: that is also taken care of... the "assault" players (first three) will have specialized towers to do small AoE damages but not good towers for acually killing units... thier main concern will be to weaken units and kill a few of them (i'm not saying they will get no kills, but less than defense). the Defense players (two working together in middle will have great unit-killing towers for further unit ownage. The Overlord (the last in line) is structured backwards, his unit that builds damaging towers can go wherever, yet his support unit can only stay in the back area... most if not all of grey's support towers will be similar to ion cannons in Wintermaul... slow, long range, lotsa damage. drinder: thx |

I know this thread is months old, but hopefully Piro your still making this map. I just reciently come into the fun of tower maps. I started playing Starcraft again for the billionth time, when onto BN and joined a TD game. It was alot of fun. So I came here to find out if something was made for WC3. If your still working on the map and would like some constructive suggestions.... The biggest concerns/suggestions I have about TD boards are: .... people who block pathing to gain all cash from Land units. Leave a unbuildable path to the creatures goal. .... Then when a air wave comes and 5 or 10 creatures get through to the inner defense, they have crap for upgrades, few towers... basically little to no chance of stopping the wave. .... Cash should be shared by all... well not shared exactly. Say each wave consists of 80 creatures (or whatever the number) Each player should be awarded X gold per kill even if they dont actually do the killing. So if there are 6 players all would be awarded X x 80 gold. Except in the case of the person who does make the kill they gains an extra 1 gold per kill. Obviously higher waves your cash value per creature goes up, it should still be spread out, except for the kill cash, that would go up a bit slower, say 50% of share cash value. eg. Wave 10, each creature is worth 10 gold per player. But the one player who kills gets an additional 5 gold. Cash rounded down, minimum of 1. (Hopefully that makes sense) .... Include Random Attack waves. On the SC TD board I play they last 3 waves attack, all the previous wave do is run for the endzone. Spread them out and make 'em random. .... I liked the ability to upgrade damage on the SC TD, of course your actually upgrading the marines/sniper/flamethrowers. You always need more bang for your buck later in the game. I wouldn't include infinit levels like the SC board, maybe 5 or so. .... include the purchase of special units, but limit the amount of units the player can control. Say to a max of 10. All units worth 1 control point and only 1 hero type can be controlled at a time. These are just things I always had problems with, take em with a grain of salt. Also is it still possible to get Wintermaul's TD map. Id like to play it :D |
