for a certain skill, i need to import 4 custom icons... each 16 kb. and for each custom icon there is a disabled icon (another 16 kb) altogether 128kb. So i am asking... is it worth it if this is an online map? |

With the patience of B.net players today, I would say no. But I would try to make the filesize smaller somehow. I don't know; it's up to you. :bgrun: |

Not really, 128 kb is around half the size of an average td, adding 1/3rd to your filesize isnt a good idea. |

There's got to be some way you can reduce the size on those icons, they should usually be only about 4 kb each... make sure they are each 64x64, then save them as 24 bpi targas and convert to blp's at about 30%. This should take a whole load of space off without noticeably reducing the quality. |

What i always say to myself is : If its good..they will dl it |

People don't really want to waste their time waiting for DL's just for some icons. Icons don't really make a game have a better fun factor, IMO. |

how about not putting on a shut off spell on them because most of the time no one uses them also set the res on the pictures low because the skills are small it wont be noticed |

Dude, it's not going to be 128KB You're forgetting that mpq's are compressed! I have like 8 custom icons and the size of my entire map is like 256KB, BEFORE I use BlackDick's program HeavyLock, which shrinks it down to around 150KB. (go check it out in the editing tools forum) |

Considering the general stupidity of B.NET players these days, (Tower Defence, anyone), I would have to disagree. About 7/8th of the B.NET population don't even bother to click on anything but TDs or Hero Arenas. Being good hasn't got anything to do with it. I mean, what kind of intelligent human being would play tower defence on and on and like nothing better. Ok, its good maybe first time but then its just boring. To find out if the majority of B.NET players would download it, imagine if a 10 year old boy would play it. |

Well heres what you do in one easy step - only if you have broadband though. 1. Post your map and title it NEW MAP DL ONLY(sleeping) then every 30 mins come back and close open the slots so that people can join again, therefore spreading your map. |
