Lazy question...how do I extract an icon, edit, and put back in?

Ok, I wanna make a custom button, a research for Orb of Annihilation. Basicly, I need to extract two buttons...the Orb of A itself and any normal button, so I can copy and paste the perimiter of it. I also need to know how to put it back in so Ican use it...prefrably without using any third party programs.

Same way you extract a skin, edit, and put it back in.

Well, the problem there is, I don't know how to do that, either.
