Some skinning problems.

Is it actually possible to make a new skin... for example, a totally new skin for Footman without actually replacing the original Footman skin?

And then, how do I reset back the old default skin for the Footman if it had been replaced by other skins?

Thanks a lot.

well u can reset the skin by extracting the original from war3.mpq and inserting it into the map.

No, to reset a skin you delete it from the map. *rolls eyess*

Mmm... ok...

I haven't try making the second skin for second model yet, I just try to replace the orginal footman skin... and I could see a change in footman's skin when I use the WorldCraft Editor.

However, when I load up the real game... the footman skin is still as exactly the same, like, as if the skin has never been change at all. What's wrong?

When you use test map, Warcraft III loads a copy of the tested map (worldedittestmap), wich doesnt have any inserted files. You'll have to view your map by starting Warcraft III and viewing your map from there. Oh and one more thing; inserted files tend to get deleted when you save after inserting.

All right..... I think it works. I think.

But now how do I change the look of the potrait?

To change the look of the portrait you'll have to do the same for the portrait model as with the unit's model i.e copy the portrait model and change the skin string it uses, but since you already did that to the unit model i'm sure you'll understand.

Where do I even find the potrait? is it the same as where I edited the skins?

Did you change the model in WE? Did you import them? What program did you use to import them? What path did you import them to? What did you set the path to in the MDXs?

Well, actually, I didn't change any model stuff.

I just replaced the original Footman skin with a new skin. The skin loads in the editor.

But, when I start the game, the skin is not showing at all (showing the original footman skin only), even if I didn't start the map from the editor.

How did you import it? I need to know that. :P

Ok... I went to

Import -> Module Manager

and then

File -> Import file

and then

Find the name "Footman.blp", and open that...

and then

Right-click on the imported file, and then to "Modify File Properties"

and then

Checked on the box "Use custom path" on the Full Path section

and then changed the path to

war3mapImported\Footman.blp -> Texture\Footman.blp

after that

I just go to the units section, and clicked on the footman icon, and started placing units on the map...

The skin changed in the editor, but not in the game...
