Hello there. Ive decided to crawl out from underneath my log and back into making maps again. So what I have now, is the desire to make one of the best RPG maps ever....But more of an Adventure map. Now what I have so far, is a few things that I want to accomplish with this map. Some things that might not have been possible earlier on. - Ability to go into different buildings, check them out, get quests from different people - A main hub world, with dungeons that branch off of it. - An advanced camera system, with a locked camera that can be moved with the arrow keys back and forth, but is also positioned behind the unit. -A "Z-targeting" mode, that allows you to dodge enemy attacks, and go in with different attack combos to stay alive. Locks the player onto a unit, so that they dont aimlessly attack. -Several mind boggling puzzles and mazes to overcome. Boobystraps and different things to slow you down. -Equiping items that you have in your inventory. Instead of having spell locations, theres a "weapon location". All items that are within your inventory are equiped to your character. Instead of having different spells, when a player clicks the plus button to go to the spell slots, they will be able to choose items in there. The spell will simply equip that item, and if theres a conflict with another item, unequip it. Swords, Shields, Differnet tunics, Bows, even different things like hookshots and bombs will be able to be used this way. -Arrowkey movement, and using items with c,v,b and swinging the sword with spacebar. -Instead of gaining exp, characters will gain weapon upgrades and get more health from defeating bosses, and finding fairy fountains. You can tell im a fan of zelda. These are only some of the many things I hope to accomlish with my new.....ADVENTURE map. Im not sure right now if I want it to even be zelda though. I might make it something completely different, or just make it Ocarnia of Time...Who knows. This is where I need your best suggestions. Thank you for your time. Ill get started as soon as I hear back from you guys. :D |

What about that you get rewarded by new skills when you solve a quest? |

Do you know how to do half of what you said? |

Like for solving quests, i was thinking you could get like 1/4 of a heart container, or in actuality an item that gives you 25 more health. For killing bosses, you'd get a full container, and the medallion needed to move on to the next area. In the hub world, you'll only be able to unlock certain things after you beat bosses, and so on. New idea though. Im thinkin about adding a map into the game. Say you press a button like "M" for map. Itd be cool if you could have a map pop up with a becon on it that shows your point in the world. |

I don't think he does, though some ideas are interesting, they have been done, and are still being done. Dark Crescent :D |

Almost all of it. Ive made entering houses before. I know how to make the camera, i know how to control with arrow keys, i know how to use items with hotkeys, i know how to do everything but the Z targeting part.....which is only making the units face each other, and stuff...But then theres dodging, and straffing around a unit. Those 2 things are the only things i wouldnt be able to do right this moment. |

Main thing here, I need to know how this map is gonna work out. I dont know if im going to be making OoT again, LTTP in 3d, Zelda whatever, or something completely separate...What should this map be like? Edit: to avoid double posting.... Draco, you dog......lol |

I noticed that, too. And I lol'd. That was hilarious. So funny... don't know why I'm posting this. Reality returning. Feeling idiotic... EDIT: Just so this isn't spam, I'll add a suggestion. Or two. 1.) Is the vision going to be directly out of the character's (Link's?) eyes? So that you can see the weapon and shield you're holding or something and you're face-to-face with whatever you're beating the crap out of. Might be kind of cool. 2.) Are you going to make it so that when you equip something else you change that character model so that you can see the weapon you're carrying? 3.) Use dialog menus for communication. Unless you're asked a riddle or something. I don't know if any of that was already mentioned in the thread. Sorry if it was, because I skipped a lot of the stuff in this thread. |

To answer your questions: 1.) Its going to be a 3rd person camera view, behind the unit, that can be moved left or right with certain keys. Something of how the camera works in the new type of zelda games. 2.) Yes, im going to have maybe 3 models of link. Link with a sword, Link with a sword and shield, and link with a quiver and bow. Possibly a model of link at a standstill.... 3.) Im hoping to make people talk by sayin things over their head, or by maybe letting them talk in a cinimatic type fashion. But there will be times when you have to click on a dialog to tell them the answer to something. This is a good start. Now if i only knew what game this would take after, or if I shuld make it original....Im not sure which way would be best. |

hi guyz, juz wondering abit... can strafing be achieved?? been trying it out for quite awhile now to no avail... the best i could ever achieve out of keystroke movement is making it move forward and able to make the char steer left/right through directional key combinations... would be really interested to see strafing action though... :) alot of ideas that link has pointed out seems almost impossible (in my opinion), but then again, who knows? he may have a workaround for it already... :) btw, link... does your 3rd person view mean something like tomb raider view? you might wanna consider doing something to the angle of the cameras as well when your char's back is facing some doodads or if it's moving down a slope... :) |
