Hey everyone, I've talked to a few people about this, but none of them have given me any definite answers as to whether or not it is possible, so tell me: Is it possible to make activation auras (ala immolation or mana shield, can be turned on for a mana cost and deactivated at will while draining mana while active?) using triggers? I've taken some approachs to this, but none have really been very successful or even close to this at all. So I wonder, what does the community think? - Lazurus |

It is possible through use of triggers. It would involve creating a dummy abiliy based off wor instance immolation, removing damge, graphics etc. You would then need to setup a trigger so that when the ability is cast the unit gains the aura ability (not sure about hiding icon though) and when the ability is deactivated it loses it. Ill do some testing. i think i might use that in my upcoming map |

Hrm.. I tried what you asked (A friend here helped me do something almost similar with an offensive aura before, however it had it's icon hidden by default, which came off as a luxury,) but the deactivation / activation part didn't quite come off right. Argh, I simply awful with triggers. :( If you come across any break-through's could you be sure to let me know? EDIT: I just asked yet another friend of mine, and he still says it is impossible. I am starting to lose hope, anyone had any luck with this? - Lazurus the Sane |

My testing is going well. Once I have got a near working model ill post it for you. I am sure it is possible. Could you possibly tell me which aura has a hidden icon? |

For the previous one the other person helped me make, the instance was unique since it was an offensive aura, but the skill itself were three modified variations of Phoenix Fire added via triggers to the unit once it put additional points into a dummy spell (Brilliance Aura with the effects turned off and the graphics changed) so I'm not sure if it's quite what you are looking for in the ways of an aura, but it should suffice. (Which is sort of ironic since all the abilities which I wish to apply it to do not have any icons by default) I do believe another instance would be the slow aura which the Naga Sea Witch's Tornado has, maybe that would be of help to you? I will also continue my testing, perhaps I will bump into something. I will let you and any readers from the rest of the community know if I come across any luck. EDIT: I guess Earth-Fury knew all along. :) - Lazurus the Sane |

lol use a bogie spell and make a unti summoned with the aura u want (hide it) and make it folow the caster. replace the spell with an 'turn off' spell, that kilsl the unit and replaces the spell to the default. sounds complex, it isent. (have the unit folow him by an ofset of 300 inj his facing direction when hese moving so that it is right ontop of him) |

How exactly would one keep the unit hidden from the summoning player when they are the one who summoned the unit? If you are talking about modifying the unit's colors and then setting the transparency to 100%, the unit would still be selectable, and it would be obvious with a quick hold-down-left-and-area-select check. If you mean hide it by having it change sides to a nuetral or other side without shared vision and by giving invisibility or whatever, wouldn't the unit still be able to be seen? That is how it is with another spell I made which used invisible attacking units, and changing it to nuetral is not an alternative because of the exact targets of the aura. I'm not quite sure what your getting at, but if I made a mistake in guess-timating, could you tell me what you mean? - Lazurus |

There's alot of possible ways to do this. One is creating dummy hero ability. If you wanted to actualy gain levels for the aura than you will need dummy upgrades and variables and etc. If not than its easy to change the mana cost and etc for the single aura. But anyways heres a example of how to make one with it actually showing in the command boxes if you didnt use up that box that is. There is another way to make it so an invis unit where you nor anyone can see or select follows your around that has the aura but you can't tell because it seems that you have teh aura where you create the animation around yourself. But before i get out of control typing here I'll give you the basic of it. If you need a specific one - I'll gladly make one =) Editing the SLK file is must too if you use immolation as the dummy spell (with that immo graphic on doesn't look right does it? ^_^ ) <Work work work> |
