Guest | Okay... So my partner and I busted our asses to have the map ready by the first deadline, wasn't balanced for shit or anything, but still wanted to submit. Then it was pushed back like the gift from God it was. We've spent the time since busting our asses even harder to make it a piece of work. Since Saturday or so we've been working 15+ hours a day on this sucker. I ask Skull, today in fact, if he had any idea when the contest would end. He says he has no idea. I ask him to post it when they figure it out, he says sure. I leave the map in my partner's hands and go to the county fair with my woman tonight. I get back, the contest is closed without warning. ...Put yourself in my shoes. Over 100 hours over a 7 day period to get this thing done (Whether we're actually 'elite' mappers or not doesn't count; whether someone else could've done the same amount of work in half the time doesn't matter. The fact is the time was put in.), even more if we'd gotten an idea of a closing time. I'm certainly not whining 'Oh wah, I'm not done, let me submit it anyway'; I'm just seeing some scary comparisons between this and my job. As in, there's no communication between the people running the show and the people working it under them. Not whining, just somewhat pissed. What gives? -Darkmoogle |

I myself am Darkmoogle's partner and when he means +15s a day, he's not kidding. 9AM-10AM to 1AM-2AM the next day. We both placed our ideas together, melted them down and worked evenly on each part of the map. On Thursday Darkmoogle even called in favors from work so he could get the day off so he could work on the map. When we heard that it would be extended til the release of RoK, our hope for making an already good map even better. Then from what he tells me today from what Skull says and the infromation we've discovered about the RoK release we assumed that we would have one to two more days. So he goes to work and I go and eat dinner. I return to find that the contest is closed... It's a horrible feeling. I'm not whining here either I'm just supporting DM's statement that there is a failure to communicate. |

Guest | I don't recall any official announcements that the contest deadline was extended. Anyway, so you won't get a chance to be a moderator or whatever... it's not the end of civilization. You still have a well-polished map to be proud of. AV |

Guest | The completed map is what counts, and personally I couldn't have cared less about the prizes. The point remains that there was a communication breakdown (Not the Led Zepplin song, either). edit: Oh, and there was. Check the thread about the contest, I believe on page three it's mentioned that it's extended... otherwise I heard it from Unlucky_Footman or someone else in charge. To be honest, I'm so tired I'm lucky I can remember my name. |
