Any current limitations?

I'm wondering if there's anything that current units can do that can't be replicated and imported with a new model with new animations. Funkiness with exporters, et cetera. I wound up a bit burned out when I was working on Morrowind models and found that it -really- didn't like new animations. Don't want to get working on WC stuff and find out the same thing a month or two down the road. =/

What your asking really depends on how far you are willing to go to craft models. If you are only willing to use a 3d program to model, there is a lot that you cannot do. For example, you would not be able to use particle emitters in your models (although that might change in the future). Without a little bit of text editting, you wouldnt even be able to texture your models. As for animations, the exporter is getting better, but still not perfect. However, if you do not mind editting your models in the MDL form (plain text) then there isnt anything that you cannot do with enough time. For example, one of our best modelers, Cookie, (until recently) works exclusively in the MDL, adding effects or animations to others' models or mixing Blizzard models for some very interesting results. What most of our modelers do is some of both, and there are not many restrictions if you choose to do this.

You should never have to do it that way though imo. Other game companies release their exporters, so wtf can't blizzard? Editing models/particle emiters/etc through text is really something that shouldn't need to be done at all in this day and age.

I just hope all the people working on the exporter can get almost everything working in wc3 the way it should be without resorting to MDL editing.

That's what I'd been wondering, republicola; it'll be a PITA, but I'll be -able- to make all those changes. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll start digging through forum posts when it gets time for me to start adding those things.

For bone chain and bones dex works without any bugs im not shure if it works with particle emiters though.
