By new ideas I mean, something that has never been done before, which can be hard, because the most addicting games are so popular. Remakes, not just complete copies like AoS Gold, AoS Platinum, AoS Gold Platinum!!1!1 But recreating ideas already used, like mixing popular ideas together to create something "new" I think there are too many remakes, but remakes can be a good thing, I'm kinda undecided of which to vote for, so I am voting on .:Undecided:. |

Undecided. Completely new ideas doesn't equal to a good game. Sometimes remakes with modifications can be more fun. However, we are in need of new ideas before we all fall into the 'maul games. |

New ideas are innovative and set the base for people to mod and perfect. So you have to ask yourself, do you want your map to be fun and polished, or innovative. If you can pull off both, I will be most impressed. :D |

I personally like to take popular genres and give them a new spin. Battledome will be that for hero arena type maps, and maybe at a later date I will go back and complete my TD... |

Both. Good remakes where someone actually works to enhance the game or add new features can make the same style map replayable. However, crappy remakes where you just change the design of a few units along with their names should never be allowed to come onto b.net.(mauls) However, new styles bring a larger variety to the scene. After all, who wants to go on b.net and find 50 games all running variations of the same style of maps, which usually means 3 or 4 types. Disadvantage to remakes is it seems no matter how hard you try to avoid it, if a map style does good, it's going to be recreated about 20+ times. Which like I said, can clog bnet with multi "unofficial" versions of the same style map or crappy clones. New styles, however, if constantly released would push the old classics out with everyone trying to get their map out. Personally, I think there should be a way where only so many people make a certain style map and each one must be different. Then lets say we could have 10 working on tds, 10 on aos, 10 on escape from whatever, etc. Then, if someone else wants to make a map, they either come up with a new style or they wait til the cycle starts over, let's say every 2-3months perhaps a new group takes over. But, this is wishful thinking. :) |

Remakes are good if the orginal map is changed in a positive and large way. New maps are also good.. they have to work tho. |

I'd vote for "both". New map ideas are difficult to test and perfect, and they can be just plain boring. However, remakes are frequently already boring because their progenitor has been played to death. New map ideas help to expand the genres of custom maps that we can work from. However, remakes help to tweak the existing genres and make them more interesting and more playable (much like Warcraft 3 is more interesting and more playable than Warcraft 2). Why should I choose between them? I'm working on two maps at the moment, and one falls into each category. |

I like an old idea, with new (fun!) gameplay elements while still maintaining the originals charm. |
