Snowball Wars

I am gonna make a Snowball Fight Map(not like dodgeball) and I was wondering if I could make it so your fighter would have to mek a ball to throw it maybe like making 2 skills one that gave you Mana(Makes the Ball) and one that uses the mana to throw it.

My map is going to have around 15 different fighters(like ones that stun have longer range etc) and it will also have the ability for you to make a snowfort and walls, etc.

Also how can I make a unit like the mech critters where the owner's name can't be seen.( I am going to have a guy that can disguise himself as a snow man)

The first thing you have to do...rename your map. Someone already made a map with that name.

Yup, that snowball game on bnet is pretty good. Needs more obstacles to hide behind though.

Maybe you could make snow piles on the map with a lot of mana, and you must siphon mana from them so you can get some snow to throw. This would be good because it means you have to be careful about getting snow, since you have to stand still to siphon and that makes you vulnerable. You could also make it so that you have to siphon a LOT of mana in order to build a fort, so it's not too easy. And once the fort is built, it won't have full HP but you can give it more HP if you go back and get more snow then use it on the fort. The fort can also take damage when it gets hit by snowballs, so in order to keep the fort standing you have to "repair" it by packing it with extra snow :P

About your sheep question... I looked all throughout the units and didn't see any sort of special sheep with an ability... just your normal old sheep. So I guess it uses the same old sheep and that something is hard coded into the item ability that gives you control and vision on the sheep...
So if you want a neutral unit that a player controls, just make it come from the mechanical sheep ability, and modify it to be whatever unit you want. Remember the unit must be created BY the ability, not HAVE the ability, to be a neutral controlled unit...

Edit - My mistake... there is no field in the mech critter to change what unit can be summoned, so I guess that's hardcoded too :/ Unless it's something SLK related?

How would you make the buildings cost mana? Just have them as summons that cost mana, if you need a variety, perhaps use the spellbook ability, essentially it's similar to the 'build buildings' tab, except it opens up a list of spells as a tab. Remember you can't have two spells based off the same one, so only one spell book can be used. Frankly I'd keep things simple when it comes to the mana, just make everyone have 100 mana as a maximum, snowballs cost around 5, maybe 10, forts cost 25, special ones can cost 30 to 50 or so. It costs no mana to gather more snow from snow pits, and you can maybe have special abilities you can learn or something, I'm not sure but if you're intending for them to be heroes then just use the hero ability system.

I'm really liking the sound of this map, especially if you have the snow pit idea. If you want help making it I'd be glad to lend my services to you. Now I believe I will scour b.net for Snowball Fight, and find out just how good it is

Thanks!!! Now I can Start My Making my Map in the Editor! I have written down all the units, buildings, and spells in a notebook so now all I need to do is transer it make terrain and triggers!

One more question for you all The Snowball Throwing System should it be like shockwave where you target the ground or like Firebolt where you target a unit?
If it was like shockwave could I make it so It stopped If it hit a Target?

I got another Idea Maybe the Attacks should be auto cast or something? Or I could Make it like the Protoss Reavers where you have to Build a Scarab?

How should I have the making units system? Gold or What? And If gold How should I make them get it?

You could have it as a fireball offshoot that can miss: flame strike with .5 duration, a small radius and a "snow splat" effect, and give the Sphere ability a snowball look.

Another possibility is giving all the heros an artillery attack type, with snowball projectile art and a small aoe, and then enable the attack when they have enough mana for a snowball. To throw a different type of snowball, you could enable the second attack instead.

Edit: hrm forgot you can't disable upgrades (that's such a pain!)...you could probably enable/disable attacks with triggers somehow

Yah that will work! Man but this game is gonna require mass microing.. anyway to reduce that? BTW they are not heros.
IDEA: Maybe Base the Move off of the Arrow Spells and make the unit otherwise only do 1 damage and make the units resist attacks 1 damage and under... I stink with editing attacks so how do I make it so no matter what a unit does 1 damage? Or is there anyway to make it so a unit does zero damage but still can use the damaging effects of the arrows?
