Has anyone noticed that in many instances, StarCraft has better triggers than WarCraft. I know your all thinking "This guy is stupid, Warcraft triggers r WAY better" But im not saying that...

Starcraft cud:
-=Detect/remove an exact amount of units in/from a region with EASE
-=DETECT HEIGHT LEVELS(Can warcraft do this?)
-=Um.. Those r the ones I really wanted to point out, anyone know if Im wrong? But Its not simple to detect units in a regoin, nor is it simple to remove exact ammounts of units.

So does anyone know anything about height lvls?

ya...2

thats it? And u say starcraft has better triggers? Maybe it has 2 easy to use ones but heres a trigger that makes warcraft 3 triggers better than starcraft

If...Then....Else. Easy, thats it, just cause starcraft has 2 trigs that war3 doesnt, that doesnt mean it has better triggers

ya, but u could make your own function for removing units from an area with ease and pass it around if u wanted

WarCtaft can:
1: For (IntegerA) = 1 to X
Remove (Random Unit From Unit Group)

2: Environment - Terrain Cliff Level (integer comparison)

Heh did we have variables other than booleans in Starcraft? Been so long since I made maps for it...

Anyway when I get frustrated at all with War3 triggering...its JASS to the rescue! Learn JASS and conquer the world!

Dude, being ABLE to make variables makes Wc3 THAT much better. Trust me, it does.

Yes Draco it does. In the starcraft days when people wanted to "replicate" an integer they would add/remove units in a region and count the number of units there.

the reason that sc editor may seem better is because it does not have as many triggers ect to deal with. Thus it is easier to go through them and make certain triggers faster because you KNOW where each trigger is off by heart. WAR WE has so many more functions to it that you may get lost in its awe so to say.

I'm confused. Do you agree with me or don't you? emote_confused

I can't really understand what you posted, but I do think that Wc3 has much better stuff to work with (I did a lot of maps back in SC and I personally know how difficult it was working with those triggers).

:D

sry I guess i was not too clear, I do agree with you that the WAR 3 WE is much better that the starcraft editor. But the starcraft editor is easier to navigate, simple because the WAR 3 editor has so many more "extras" that are not available in the SC editor.

Making triggers for SC was VERY TIME CONSUMING. Here's 2 trigger sets, 1 from each game that do the exact same thing. Let's say they give money ever 30 seconds based on how many supply depots each player has. There are 8 players on the map.

Starcraft:

Players
All Players

Conditions
Current Player owns Exactly 1 Supply Depot
Countdown Timer is Less than or Equal to 0

Actions
Give Current Player 10 Ore
Display Message : You have recieved |10 |Money.
Set Countdown Timer to 30 game seconds.
Preserve Trigger.

Players
All Players

Conditions
Current Player owns Exactly 2 Supply Depot
Countdown Timer is Less than or Equal to 0

Actions
Give Current Player 20 Ore
Display Message : You have recieved |20 |Money.
Set Countdown Timer to 30 game seconds.
Preserve Trigger.

Players
All Players

Conditions
Current Player owns Exactly 3 Supply Depot
Countdown Timer is Less than or Equal to 0

Actions
Give Current Player 30 Ore
Display Message : You have recieved |30 |Money.
Set Countdown Timer to 30 game seconds.
Preserve Trigger.

etc. etc. etc. The map maker (me) will most likely get tired of making all of those triggers and assume no one will ever get that many farms. But they do somehow... *sigh*

Warcraft III:

Events
Periodic Event - Every 30 seconds

Conditions

Actions
For Each (Integer A) from 1 to 8, do "Add ((Number of units owned by Player(Integer A) of type Supply Depot) x 10) to Player(Integer A) Current Gold.

Wow. A whole day's work summed up in 1 easy-to-make trigger. It doesn't matter how many supply depots a player has, 'cause they'll get full income for every single one of them. In SC, you have to make them manually, and eventually someone will go past the number of those triggers you made, and they wont get full income from all of their supply depots.

In short, WC3 is better for UMS than SC. :D

Ok... I suppose I didnt get the point across that I wasnt trying to say that WC triggers are worse than SC triggers... I knew I shud have made it blatently obvious so u ppl understand, I was pointing out ceratain instances where SC triggers are superior...

Thank you to the ppl who gave me ways to do those things, I know how to create/remove units, but it was SO mch simpler in SC. And thanks, I didnt know there was a condition invovling height.
